In #GovCampCymru and have seen a few other Fedizens including @aegir and @jaker
What I hate almost more than Sam Altman's "Why haven't the plebs handed over their RAM already?" is that the fascist multi-billionaire John Collison sits across Altman, nodding and making agreeable sounds, not exclaiming "What?!?" but nonchalantly moving on to the next question as if what Altman just said was the most normal, sane thing to say, as if Altman just said something completely acceptable.
Sam Altman isn't a disgusting exception. They are all like this.

I found a stack of porn mags next to a tree in a park when I was 14. They got me through a lot of lonely teenage years. It has been 30 years and I've long moved away but whenever I go visit my parents I always have a look behind that tree for more.
@fesshole And they say dogs are like their owners.
as I was saying earlier today

#introduction tldr: I've just joined @Mastodon as interim commercial director.
I've been working with open source organizations on commercialization, positioning strategy and GTM for several years, I've hosted The Business of Open Source podcast since 2020, and I co-organize @OpenSourceFoundersSummit.
In my "real" life I'm into improv theater and I bake a lot. So if I ever give up on the tech career I'll open a cafe with improv shows and excellent baked goods.
@emilyomier @Mastodon @OpenSourceFoundersSummit this is very exciting! Congratulations!
Finished some client work yesterday 👀 ✨
Happy with how it turned out!

@artbyeliza oh that's awesome!
I'd say the "months of warnings" should be at least "three years of warnings". https://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2026/nov/06/global-stocks-tumble-ai-panic-markets-democrats-midterms-success-jobs-oil-dollar-latest-news-update
That the "stock markets" are so very shocked by known binary events is always worrying to me. If only we didn't let the clearly poorly informed feelings/emotions of a bunch of (largely) men hold so much sway over the world.

i guess i am technically "anti-capitalist" in that i think that an economic system whose overall success hinges on GDP growth and jobs numbers causes a lot of bad incentives
but i also think that any system that replaces it will probably also have its own bad incentives, and these must be considered carefully and counterbalanced properly
i don't like it when the automotive industry in germany, or the AI industry in the US, or the military-industrial complex in a lot of places, gets to practically hold the rest of the country hostage because it can always threaten to explode enough of the economy and eliminate enough jobs to make the current government lose the next election
this is also why i don't like the idea of government monopolies, either -- the end result is just that whoever runs that monopoly gets to hold the rest of government and the people hostage instead
Group Channels
Just a heads up: channels within a group don't initially show up. You basically have to scroll down to the channel section, and copy-paste a link into search so that Webfinger pulls it in.
Might be worthwhile to federate those over after successfully joining a group across instances. But for now, anyone that's missing these can manually pull them in.

Shoot uses a variant of FEP-1b12 for group chats, it is the same protocol on which Lemmy communities are built.
However, chats typically require a more fine-grained permission system than Lemmy currently offers. This is what I am working on: FEP-5219: Groups and permissions
>end-to-end-encryption
Not a thing yet.
I had some time to think about this. And from what I gather, the missing encryption is probably one of the major showstoppers here.
For one people expect chat to come with some minimum standards. I mean proper e2ee and several other features have been part of practically every other chat solution out there, for quite some time now. And we need it to supply that amount of confidence to enable people to talk to their family, friends, colleagues… We’d need it to eat our own dogfood and discuss internal stuff within mod teams, etc…
And semi-public unencrypted chat messages are kind of a liability to admins as well. We expect people to do nefarious stuff once they think they’re in some sort of closed group. And that stuff can’t federate uncontrollably and we also can’t have it sit on our servers. And that means either encryption as well (so the admins don’t have to deal with it). Or a massive amount of effort and potential legal issues.

Oh, I do have a little news; the dress I've had my eye on for over a year was a) on offer and b) available in my size.
It arrived yesterday. 🦖 🦕
