kinda wild how many people used to being part of the "majority" still can't accept the idea that sometimes, things can appeal to people other than them, or that sometimes other types of people can achieve success
like, that's just life -- sometimes, other people have more skill or talent or just work harder because their conditions require them to work harder to achieve the same success
and this idea is perfectly understandable when it's about people who aren't marginalized in a "controversial" way -- "i grew up poor and worked hard to become more successful than others in my field" is literally supposed to be the aspirational message, except apparently when it's women or minorities doing that, now we have to figure out if they're cheating in some way
i still find it wild that, in the US, so many people's "racist awakening" was the idea that a black guy (who got an elite education and was a very skilled person otherwise) might have been a decent president
and it made them flip so much, they now find no contradiction in wanting "meritocracy" while also thinking an unqualified drunkard who thinks wars are won by the machoest of men should manage the country's military
and, like, i can agree that it feels nice when you can relate more easily to people around you or those in charge (the "guy i can have a beer with" idea), but if y'all have 300 million people and lots of different opportunities of advancement, it's just gonna make sense that the people who take a lot of them will be unlike a typical person
same way that a professional athlete is going to be the kind of person who got lucky genetics + was able to train hard every day + can manage their body in a way that maximizes performance and longevity
or a professional actor is going to be someone who has good (or memorable) looks, knows how to handle themself with other people, and so on

A 400 year old lock has been baffling historians since it was found in 1999 in sand near Port Talbot. It appears that it was part of a treasure hoard that was on its way back from Spain in 1583 when went down with it's ship. Scientists have used CT scanning to find the secret of how to unlock the padlock and reveal the code. The answer is ANCE.
