@ianbetteridge As much as I loathe Kennedy, Hegseth has to be first.
Not entirely sure how to compare loathsomeness, but Kennedy has probably caused more long-term damage.
Is there a scale? Like the Loathsome Pine?
Up next in Linux's bootup sequence it might improve its debug-buffer.
It does so by validating that things in the default state, allocating extra memory (via helpers) to the ringbuffer for the extra CPUs while logging stats, calculates & validates a descriptions-count, memblock-allocates several buffers or cleans up, populates (via a helper) a new record, updates (via another helper) several ringbuffer properties some of which are atomic, ...
1/?
... with local IRQs saved updates a few globals & reenqueues valid records, iterates over valid records again reenqueueing them, & logs (partially via a helper) some stats. Those iterations are done with a validating iterator.
After that Linux boots up Virtual FileSystem caches by iterating over hashmap buckets initializing HLists, extremely carefully (via a helper) calculates a hashmap size & allocates it, twice CPU-specifically invokes all callbacks from a compiler-generated array, ...
2/?
& indirectly invokes that massive-hashmap initializer again.
And after that Linux might sort an exceptions-handling table.
2.2/2.2 Fin for today! Tomorrow: Further memory-allocator initialization!

Got Zelda loaded up. Pizza and wings scheduled for lunch. Calories don’t count today. It’s November 1998 and I’m living my best life
I’ve resolved to only play songs via my actual ocarina, so I’m learning each song by ear in real time as I play through. It’s hilarious and very fun. Highly recommend if you’re musically inclined
Turns out Dwarf Fortress generated names and dialogs seem to be heavily inspired by Arthurian literature and old Welsh books. I always thought they were like that because of procedural text rules.
Reading Mabinogion currently, every paragraph is like this:
"Caledvwlch, my sword; Rhongomyant, my lance; Wynebgwrthucher, my shield; Carnwenhau, my dagger; Gwenhwyvar, my wife."
"I am Kilhwch the son of Kilydd, the son of Prince Kelyddon, by Goleuddydd the daughter of Prince Anlawdd."

Fedigest, a hand-picked front page for Lemmy, PieFed and Mbin
Made a thing. Fedigest is a self-hosted site where you pick posts from anywhere in the threadiverse, write a few lines about why they’re worth reading, and publish them as one front page.
Comments are pulled live from the original thread. Want to vote or reply? Enter your home instance once, it gets saved in your browser, and from then on every post takes you straight to the same post on your own instance. It can also follow communities and add new posts automatically.
Comes with 15 themes (light/dark pairs follow your device, and there’s a terminal one with an old PC font), and you can make your own with a live preview.
Runs as one Docker container, SQLite inside. Still early, version 0.1.3. Built with help from an LLM.

Feedback welcome.
i love @gabboman@gabboman.xyz in the wafrn discord being all "this is a small update" and drops and update which makes existing on wafrn as a system a first class experience natively without any hacks
as it is now wafrn is unironically the only platform where this is the case

@cthos No, no, I haven't used V3 at all. I was asking if you had noticed increased RAM because I need to decide whether to upgrade.
I can imagine bundling them into one app increasing RAM demands and I can imagine it not increasing RAM demands. It all depends on how they did it.
@mcc Oh!
I haven't noticed anything but I can do a comparison in a little bit
