Потихоньку пытаюсь выжить у себя же дома...
For years, Transistor used XSLT to turn feeds into readable web pages.
Chrome is removing XSLT support this month, so we switched to a CSS stylesheet.
@js saw our first iteration and encouraged us to up our styling game. "I've always associated Transistor with good design," he said, "I think you can do better."
Fair point! We went back and rebuilt it.

Now it looks 🤩
Just discovered that our district's Congresswoman Elect is having trouble joining the Congressional Black Caucus, along with other newly elected socialists including Darializa Avila Chevalier and Chris Rabb, because she has refused to pledge to support Hakeem Jeffries as speaker.
There is no official requirement that members of the caucus have to back Jeffries as speaker, but now they're wondering if there should be.

@kleisli And you don't think digital sovereignty and the Fediverse are at all related?
@kleisli you saw this, right? https://european.social/

We won’t take venture capital. We don’t have corporate sponsors. We don’t take half a billion dollars a year from Google. We’re just two people working to create a simple, viable alternative that will give everyone the chance to own their own place on the web.

@aral Since our home was bombed, I have been desperately asking for your help to secure a new tent for my family. We are still staying with relatives, with no safe place of our own. I urgently need $390 to provide shelter for my family. Please don't leave us alone. Every $5 or $10 brings us closer to safety. ❤️https://chuffed.org/project/208485-give-waleeds-family-a-chance-to-live
I don't look on the Haskell reddit very often these days (or, in fact, any reddit) but I just did, and I saw:
(a) Someone saying they hoped I'd adopt an LLM friendly policy for Idris, and
(b) Someone else saying, yeah, not gonna happen, and here is Edwin's explanation (which was a pretty accurate summary).
Thank you to person (b), whoever you were. Still not gonna happen. Don't even ask.
(In case anyone missed my justification: I'm an academic. I'm here to advance human understanding. Therefore I have exactly no interest in what generative AI can do and I'm going to spend exactly no time trying to get it to write any code for me.)
I realise I'm a stuck record on this topic. Don't care.
Also it's why nobody other than me can see the current progress of $(whatever it is I'm working on). Receiving contributions is not free. It never has been, but it's even more expensive now.
Note to self: look into Idris.
@jenniferplusplus good point on the verbosity, I hadn’t thought about that much. It’s probably really hard to unwind once the cat’s out of the bag for any given project.
I’m baffled when people talk about delegating the code review to the LLM. If you’re going to use the robot that’s the one main control point you shouldn’t delegate. But then the verbosity point comes up again. Ugh, I’m seeing how quickly it becomes slop all the way down.
@brokenintuition In more than a few companies, there's an active push from management to get developers to stop reviewing changes and just sign off on the review-shaped text that AI spits out. They think that the time spent on review is what's preventing them from realizing the productivity multiplier they're expecting.
I, otoh, think that's what's barely holding back an avalanche of errors, outages, and vulnerabilities. I think the overall state of computing in the last couple of years supports my view, but 🤷♀️

@daringfireball Wonder how much it’d cost to buy the archives.
@evan I don't think so. It mattered somehow for the digital independence movement, but not for the Fediverse.
@kleisli And you don't think digital sovereignty and the Fediverse are at all related?
don’t buy the dip.
have soft, pliable hands.
people have enough dip and they also enjoy spending time with people with soft hands.
@djsundog buy the dip. Buy a bunch of dips. Hummus, baba ghanouj, whatever you'd like. Price goes down? Hey, buy more dip!
@mcc Since you mention OS, maybe Lions OS, that the seL4 group is building on top of it, might also be of interest: https://www.lionsos.org/ . I believe it is still quite early days, though. I think the "why" is better explained in the seL4 conference videos (youtube). I think it was something along the lines of making it easier and more practical to use than seL4.

@lightweight Thank you for sharing this Dave. Would like to see more so please share links when you get them.
Just reading a paper by Mohan Datta and I note that HATE is the main weapon the radical right has. Nutralise that and we nutralise them. That would explain the war on empathy. (And in turn Ardern.)
So logically, responding back to these people with compassion is the way to disarm them.
@ByronCinNZ I'll definitely be pumping the links out when I get them. If you have any connection to Prof Dutta, feel free to ask him!
I just find this whole UI way too dark and hard to actually parse now.
@fluffy eek.
been hearing bad things from screen reader users too…
