An AI fraud kingpins rise and fall; voters rejected data centers; and a new fear unlocked.

@davidgerard A sense that possibly Trump's tariffs will be reigned in and maybe Kushner and others will get pulled off the Iran diplomatic team maybe?
It turns out you can’t post Malfoids and Anakin when diesel is $6 a gallon and expect America to vote for you.

If your “anti-abuse” security requires your software to be closed source, then your software is not secure. Well built software can be open source, and still secure.
You imply that your code could not prevent abuse if it was known, so, no offense, but that code must be pretty bad!
I like the fediverse because it distributes power. I, as a user, have the power to choose my instance, choose my moderation, choose the structure that my social interactions are built upon (threads based, microblogs, etc) and if I dont like something, I have the power to change it. Thats why open source is such a perfect fit to that model. Closed source federation then, sounds to me like you didnt get it.
Imagine if you designed a programming language where the compiler needed to make it work only existed temporarily at the moment the program was compiled and permanently deleted itself when compilation were done. Would such code be compatible with the GPL? Because that is effectively the situation with a system with stochastic semantics, as a code assistant/agent prompt system uses.
Note: The above posts are "joshing" and not meant to be interpreted as something I think is a good idea
OpenAI launches GPT-6 Cyber, which it says outperforms GPT-6 Astra on cyber benchmarks, is better at finding vulnerabilities, and is less likely to go rogue (Emma Roth/The Verge)

To clarify, there is some evidence these refugee camps exist. It is also likely there are queer people living there who are not treated well.
But numerous people have worked hard to verify the legitimacy of these accounts asking for money and it is all-but-confirmed they are fake and simply scams.
2/2
@CordiallyChloe would you be so kind as to link me to some research or receipts or something about why you are certain they are a scam and not real people asking for money in a dire situation?
BWHAHAHA! Remember when I was saying just before the election that we would crush and humiliate them and that made it likely that Republicans would defect instead of supporting an attempt to steal the election?
Once again, here we are! Marco Rubio is the biggest rat off the sinking ship so far. Dude doesn't think he can win, he just wants OUT.

@root this is like running on solar and lunar calendars at the same time but there are two suns
@ben well, maybe they need to hire an astrophysicist to figure out how to iron it out because it seems like an arbitrary system they placed onto a real life day/night cycle and that's only gonna be confusing lmao at least if it isn't separated like guild wars where the daily is wholly separated from in game so there's the mental disconnect from connecting dailies to say the fishing time of day instead of having irl daily resets hidden in game at special spots or whatever lol
I say this with love for anyone who needs it
Vale is like a valley
Veil is a net like thing usually on a hat
Elude means escape
Allude means hint at
@gildilinie And, as I said for training, we don’t really need it anymore.
That should just stop.
No more data centers. Stop building them. Let the people have their RAM and storage back.
The only reason that they keep going is because everyone is trying to be the first to something that may or may not exist and to corner that market.
If the people controlled it, we’d have stopped a long time ago.
I mean, as you have mentioned, there are better ways and that could have been funded instead.
@gildilinie And I still don’t buy the “mind into cheese” argument.
I’ve been asking what that even looks like.
I’ve had more time to read, play video games, debate on the internet, do my son’s math homework (common core fucking sucks), be civically engaged, and still feel sharp.
So, what is the “mind into cheese” bit people keep referring to?
Offloading repetitive tasks?
Doing data analysis?
Answering a boss’s email?
People who look bad when the AI is taken away were never good to start.

Hi from normals.me. If you can read this, the federation works
This post is written on https://normals.me and delivered to !fediverse@lemmy.world over #ActivityPub, so if you are reading it the basic plumbing works. Now let me explain what is this.
Normals is a forum with communities, threads, and questions with an accepted answer. It is a single instance, not software you can host, and the core is closed for anti-abuse reasons. The federation module will be published separately with implementation notes (FEP-67ff).
What federates today Every community is a Group actor following the Lemmy model (FEP-1b12). Follow @selfhosted@normals.me or any other community from Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin or Mastodon.
Posts and comments go both ways. Replies from your instance appear in the thread on Normals, replies from Normals go back to the origin.
Remote content is labelled with its origin, links back to it, and is never copied. Media loads from the source.
Signed fetches, so it works with instances that require authorized fetch. NodeInfo 2.1 is up.
Policies, in case they matter to you, it has no ads, and no paid reach, and of course no AI training on posts. AI crawlers blocked by default, public mod log with reasons, and no automated removals. Numbers at https://normals.me/transparency so please take a look.
If something from your instance shows up wrong here, or something from here shows up wrong on yours, reply with the URL and I'll fix it. Andy Piper mentioned NodeBB uses the same group model, if anyone runs a NodeBB instance I'd like to test against it, if possible.
I hope we all have fun. Cheers!
Proposing a novel legal attack on LLM-generated source code where you claim it is incompatible with the GPL because the prompts are the source code and the emitted C or Rust or whatever is a compiled binary

Elon Musk is top of my list for immediate consequences -- betrayed Ukraine, betrayed the United States, each with his Starlink capitulation to Putin, the irrational glee he took with his DOGE terrorism. Everyone of his DOGE boys better lawyer up too. We can't have an Hostile Foreign Agent, compromised by Putin, running NASA and the DoD and our defense assets, and that's essentially what we've got.
