If I may ask "higher smoke point oils" what are those? I know this in theory, but in practice it is either (milk) butter or sunflower seed oil for me.
@muhanga I'm using sunflower now just cuz I have a bunch for baking. The big thing is I have to get away from olive oil as my go-to for frying, cuz it smokes up at super low temps.
It was shocking how much my YouTube experience changed when I turned it off.
@venya @neverbeaten I made a conscious decision to lean into this election shite the last few months. I knew it was going to be on my mind, so I decided I would try to get some perspective. YouTube was definitely part of that.
But that shite is OVER. I will go back to my regularly scheduled reading of all things political in my RSS reader, and lay off the YouTube for everything but synth videos and comedy. Celebrate!

So now there was a blue wave in my country, I can't wait to see how the liberals capitulate to the fascists. I'm sure the diet fascists are already reaching across the aisle to assure republican voters that nothing will change, and this country will always be as racist and homophobic and ableist as it always was so no need to worry there. In a lot of ways, the liberals, or what I call the diet fascists, will be more annoying than the republicans, but that's where mutual aid and community come in.. we picked our boss fight but sleeping is not a luxury we can have.

No idea if the car will be a write-off or not. Not sure how they determine it. It is driveable. But I guess it’ll be whether there is any damage to the charging port which I think took near the full brunt of the force or anything else under the hood. The hood itself opens and closes/latches.
It will definitely need a new front bumper at the very least, likely a new hood, maybe new headlight… we’ll see what else.
@chris So glad you're okay. If you have comprehensive coverage, animal strikes are usually covered under it, and photos plus a police or incident report help the claim.

@aphyr I had a chemistry teacher once show me how to very roughly guesstimate temperature by touching a glass beaker.
If it doesn't hurt, 40C or below
If it's a uncomfortable eventually, 50C
If it hurts pretty quickly, 60C
If it hurts instantly, 70C
If it's 80C or above you shouldn't have touched it
(This is about 22 years ago so I might have the numbers wrong.)
@0x2ba22e11 Yeah stainless frying temps are generally up at 140-200 C. You can get it by feeling the radiant heat, and waiting for the leidenfrost effect. I'm just not great at it yet. :-)
