you guys do realize only 2 of the 5 games so far were named after the countries.
TES1: Arena, not a country
TES2: Daggerfall, not a country (but geographical)
TES3: Morrowind, a country
TES4: Oblivion, not a country
TES5: Skyrim, a country
Skyrim babies just think every Elder Scrolls game has to be named after one of the countries in Tamriel.
Bonus:
TES: Battlespire, not a country
TES: Redguard, not a country
TES: Legends, not a country
TES: Blades, a phone app, not a country
Also TES6 is going to suck. You heard it here first.

@tctdiy_gaming I went with GNOME this time, but usually on my BSD laptops I go for Xfce. It does a lot, and a lot of people use it, so it tends to work well.
AFAIK, #GhostBSD is the only project that ships a GUI (MATE or Xfce) that is currently under active development.
I quite liked it the last time I ran it.
The main GhostBSD developer is very much into LLM development and the use of agents, so if that doesn't bother you, great. If it does, not so great.
@tctdiy_gaming I would love to see more BSD "distributions," but for whatever reason, it hasn't happened.
every single time someone brings up UEFI "secure boot" I wonder what the world would be like today if all of the resources and effort that has been put into code signing had instead be put into something better aligned with the information security threats actually experienced by individual people in their day to day lives
She asked it as a rhetorical question, because she knows the answer is yes.
@ubiworks.bsky.social
👆"Trickle up" economics. Cool.
@passthejoe are there any bsd distributions that use gnome by default?

Got my order from @nora it's awesome!
@monoidmusician @natty amusingly my monoid is also merge, but I am not trying to implement a mergesort (instead I have a bunch of equally long sorted lists that i need to merge into a single one)
@mildsunrise @monoidmusician @natty I think you can do the same trick though? Merge adjacent pairs of lists, then merge adjacent pairs of the result of the first pass, and so on recursively.
That said, I wonder if it's any better to put all your lists into a priority queue ordered by the next element of each list? I learned that trick from the Python standard library and I dunno if it works as well when the data structure is immutable/persistent.

@Canageek Java actually delivered on memory safety by having a virtual machine that is MUCH simpler than the language or a real CPU, so you can verify it & prevent any jiggery-pokery with memory.
Rust is like C with "safe mode" bolted on, you constantly have to do it yourself, manage when memory is accessed & released, but the compiler screams at you if you don't follow its rules. It is safer than C but only by making you work 10x as hard.
Rust Evangelism is a death cult.
@Canageek My current main toolchain is Kawa Scheme, which compiles to JVM. I avoid touching Java-the-language if I can possibly help it, but my nice Scheme code outputs a Java JAR, which seems to run well & has an OK GUI on Mac, BSD, Linux, Windows, without my having to do anything else. Hooray!
Rust has no such things. It can make single-platform binaries, potentially including a GUI if you want to learn each one's API & do "unsafe" operations.
Viele so: Hey, ein Verbotsverfahren gegen die AfD können wir beim Bundesverfassungsgericht nicht beantragen. Viel zu riskant! Wer weiß schon, was die Gerichte entscheiden?

@BlumeEvolution Genau das, danke!
@chris OMG, I just learned that CHU (NRC's shortwave time broadcast) shut down in June! 😲
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHU_(radio_station)
As a boy, it was wondrous to think CHU time was sync'ed to Atomic Clocks!
@puzzled ya. Very sad. I think this was the same moment when all the Environment Canada land-based radio forecasts also ceased :(
All for no real reason except “no longer funded”
Haircut boy. Fresh outta grooming.

I don't know who created Big Walk, but I'm trying to figure out how we get them to take a Big Walk to the Polls!
