@Wyatt_H_Knott @larand @ai6yr @Zelda when i was growing up in a sailing family in the 60s and 70s, we used to call them “stinkpotters”. A bit harsh in retrospect. 😉
@HumToTable @ai6yr I read the books, but I didn't need history to teach me the universe is trying to kill me.
My step-dad's brother was on sticks because he caught polio. He taught me rev matching when shifting because he never used a clutch if he could avoid it - not enough feet.
My aunt was deaf because she caught scarlet fever.
Diseases *not* fucking up the population is a rare and modern condition that only a fool takes for granted.
@grumble209 @HumToTable Alas, we apparently have a wealth of fools. Or, a lot of people who don't mind seeing a lot of people dying. Or, both.
This was the first time I didn’t get chills the evening after my flu and COVID shots, which was nice. It’s so crazy that the general guidance I’m seeing by physicians (even here in Mass, not just CDC) is to not bother with the COVID shot unless you’re in a special group. It seems to provide so much protection in various ways,
@lucybeahere @hoco It's so silly. If a vaccine exists, I’m getting it. I don't care if it may not do much. I'll take every bit of something I can get.
don't call it vibecoding, call it slopcoding. much nicer term 😁
i wouldn't take a pill that stopped me being autistic but i'd take a pill that gave me neurotypical auditory processing abilities
@aisling I would take a pill that teleports me into a random video game on itch.io because dying in genAI slop sounds preferable to dying surrounded by it
Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation could crash laptops, so the fix filtered the music

Fediverse
Goodreads removed RSS and some people are asking for alternatives on Reddit; maybe worth pointing to BookWyrm and NeoDB?
Goodreads removed RSS and some people are asking for... #fediverse #goodreads #bookwyrm #neodb #rssfeeds
Both fediverse softwares that support user reviews for books, both have RSS support natively (no Piefed/Misskey bridge needed), and some comments also seem discontent with Amazon's mismanagement overall.
Welp, Customs and Border Patrol is checking cars on the I5 going North (California), slowing everything to a crawl. First time in years. Maybe some illegal alien will get in just in time to cast a vote! Oh, noes! Looking in the windshield for brown people. Why does this feel like election interference.
good book for 25 y/o kid

this really is the "I want to have my games on CD-R's but I don't want to buy blank CD-R's" thread, huh
@Alice
Damnit. I don't qualify for (free) covid shots here in Stockholm. Seasonal flu shot and pneumococcus, those I can get for free. Will be booking sn appointment.
Get so annoyed at covid shots being for such limited groups now here.
Hm. Makes me wonder if my youngest, with a genetic syndrome, can get these now that she's slmost 10.
@Gurre That's a bummer. At least look into it for her!
@copperandclaw Not me!
But (if any one listed below wants to be removed from this post let me know and I'll edit remove you!)
sewing: @inarticulatequilter , @ai6yr , @ansate , @swachter
other fiber arts (knitting, weaving, spinning, crochet): @secretsloth , @inherentlee , @Bronwyn , @finn , @Caiotekit , @piiabartos
I almost certainly follow more folks who do these things, but these are the ones I can recall right this minute.
@SRLevine @copperandclaw @inarticulatequilter @ansate @swachter @secretsloth @inherentlee @Bronwyn @finn @Caiotekit @piiabartos LOL fair warning, i post on a LOT OF OTHER TOPICS aside from sewing. (I mean, a lot).
(that said, I was particularly happy with my selvedge jeans project recently)
If you’re American, you can skip checking social media tomorrow. It’s just gonna be people who already voted yelling at each other to go vote
@jalefkowit okay I’ll not say too much tomorrow apart from kind encouragement 😹🩷
@prism Yeah, the obvious retort is that if these people exist she really should be able to produce some of them to speak up for her
@prism "Out on the town having the time of my life with a bunch of Black and Jewish voters. They're all just out of frame, laughing too"

@Alice
My local supermarket's pharmacy had a "Vaccine Week" at the end of September, no appointments required, and they gave you a $5 grocery coupon for every shot you got. They pitched it hard.
They even offered me the choice of Moderna or Pfizer/BioNTech for COVID.
@RealGene Which one did you decide to get loaded up with? I'm 100% Pfizer.
