If I catch you stealing ants I'll beat you up. You don't want to play with this. I won't.
@futurebird I saw that in the UK. Mutherfuckers will steal ANYTHING to make a buck. Leave the poor ants alone, and I KNOW my Sister has their back...
@ifixcoinops @reb i, as a tech, like to have a bit of functional overlap, especially in circumstances where techs don't or can't check-in in person at least once a week or so.
but either way, i feel this thread rips from the tensions of how thing could be / would be nice to be, and the harsh external forces of how they are
Look, I'm willing to say this is impressive, but it's also terrifying:

I'm over here lovingly hand-crafting (what I think is) a useful piece of system software right now, a few thousand lines of code, and a few weeks' work to build it.
Meanwhile, this AI thing reverse-engineered all of Unreal Engine 1 from the retail binaries over that same time frame.
I'm just trying not to feel an enormous amount of existential dread right now. Maybe that's dumb of me, I dunno.
@icculus ryan, veteran experts have nothing to fear; only to gain. it's the juniors who will struggle to build competence in a system that rushes to take every hard decision off their hands. it's the same worry we had when win 95 replaced DOS. it's the dread i feel when i hear of people who only ever used git through a GUI. this is just the latest edition. individuals who know the details of the systems we use grow sparse. you are one of them.

@ErikUden Probably. Let's not give them any reason to stay home playing Space Invaders instead of doing the thing.
@ai6yr we switched to a LG heat pump dryer about a year ago, it works well and has significantly reduced our power bill.
There are only a few 120v dryers on the US market.
Mispronouncing Canadian territories? No, I’m having Nunavut.
My wife complains I am no good at planning, but this is nonsense. She's gone away with our daughter for a shopping weekend and I've planned: bacon roll, cricket on Sky, cake, football on TNT, sausage rolls, porn and a wank, football on Sky, curry, bottle of wine, & whiskey.
@fesshole Har-har-har. 🙄
some silly Blendering

@kdrnic it's so surprising and rare for me to see windows screenshots on mastodon, i think I see more from weird BSD desktops and Amigas.
Cool duckman
If you’re registered to vote, there’s a chance you could end up being selected for jury duty. But whether you’re able to fulfil your civic duty can come down to whether you can afford it.

@evan
Yeah this part gave me that impression.
"we are announcing a new program of grants for multimedia software and creators. In this program, we are asking software developers and publishers to partner to make new and better content on the Fediverse."
Seemed a bit software focused but if its not neat.
@Capheind it is for software and content. Like, if you are making a podcast, you partner with Castopod, and then you make the podcast, and if you need help they help you, and they fix bugs if you find them, and they add features you want if you ask.

@CStamp I used to work with a guy named Dan Sullivan. I wonder where he is now. I should check around and see if he's listed on a ballot somewhere.
Is everyone a Sullivan down there?
As I said last week, I got laid off. I figured I'd make a post on my site for visibility, along with a link to my updated resume.
