Fresh account, hello! Just settled in here after hearing good things about this instance. I mostly plan to post small everyday things - morning walks, kitchen experiments, and the occasional tool I stumble across. Glad to be around.
@msbellows definitely the aggressor
@andy I wonder which was there first.
At one point I would've read a large number of books, the implications of which I did not understand. (Here come the black squiggles.) It seems hard to do this as an adult for reasons of ego. I avoid feeling stupid, and imagine I am not the only one given how few people go to the library (and how much people like simple explanations of things). Yet surely reading a book I don't understand at all is the best way to learn about whatever subject it describes? I don't yet know the qualities and ideas that I don't know. But this is hard, materially - I have to sit for hours, looking at the black squiggles, and try to form them into pictures and ideas in my head by dint of their juxtaposition. Sometimes I don't know what the individual black squiggles indicate, let alone their larger structure.

A guy here in Cleveland has been building this retro side-scroller beat-em-up game for almost a year, and he's finally released it on mobile and itch.io. The game is all about Cleveland, and has a bajillion local references and characters, and the dev has been earnestly asking for ideas and feedback on reddit since the beginning. I love this project so much.
There is plenty of room for null votes in uncontested races.
@futurebird Ah, if you mean where there is only one candidate, yes, I do suppose so.
But it still doesn't actually send them a message... They don't see your vote (or lack thereof.) Not directly. I suppose it's possible to find out how many votes they win by and how many people in total voted, but I honestly don't think any ever actually check that...
Perhaps I'm wrong. As you say, it won't actually *hurt* I'm just not sure it gets a message through either.
I’m starting a rival social tradition “Giant Nut November” where you gift your loved ones metric nuts >M40 in size to show how much you love and appreciate them
@andy I'm #TeamLighterColoredSalmon. Dude wants it more.
@msbellows definitely the aggressor
I finally signed up for Xiaohongshu (its now close to 400 million MAU) and of course instantly greeted by surreal ai generated pokémon
The artist I've seen credited with this illustration is Robert Bonfils, who made a ton of covers for erotic novels.

That's so cool for you! 😎
@SpiritualAnnie yes!
As far as I'm concerned #HaleyStevens is yesterday's news. She's a blip, unimportant. I hope never to hear her name again. In fact I'm muting her name on my timeline. What *is* important is saving our democracy and protecting the rest of the world by voting early - if you can - but for sure voting to get the corruption & insanity out of public office. We need people like #AbduElSayed who aren't distracted with this nonsense the MSM seems to love because it's easy click bait mindless news. #USPol
@amsomniac what better way to test a new operating system than to move your critical dependencies to it?
-🧛
@tully hardk0re mode
@amsomniac and why is there no Wichita Masterpiece?
@Struble I guessed the only other city I know in Kansas which is Kansas City and learned about a barbeque sauce I'd never heard of today. thank you
meanwhile on bluesky someone is trying to tell me that the steam personalized calendar is generative AI, apparently because they don't know what generative means
they also apparently think that gabe newell was funding generative AI back when OpenAI was announcing that they made robots capable of losing at Dota 2
You are the best of us Mary!
@mastodonmigration
Thank you for such kind words.
Remember when I had some T-shirts to sell to raise money for Free and Fair Elections NM26? Well, here are #NewMexico next governor, Deb Haaland, and lieutenant governor, Stephanie Garcia-Richard, at an event in Truth or Consequences, wearing our shirts!
That's so cool for you! 😎
