@bigzaphod so you're going to the rally?
@Eggfreckles I'm just a few miles from it. I wish I could move.
idk man, i just think we can't let the sloppers win and take all our spaces and all our hobbies and all our joy from us. we gotta fight back, and if we have to make our own new communities that ban slop to replace old ones that didn't have the backbone to do it, then that's what we gotta do
and i'm not saying it'll be easy. i'm saying that unless we wanna just lay down and give up and die that's our only choice
"Judge tosses DOJ’s attempt to delay Alaska Senate results if Republican loses The decision shot down the Trump administration’s extraordinary request to block the election’s resolution if Sen. Dan S. Sullivan narrowly loses. Another candidate, Dan J. Sullivan Jr., is also running."
Binance hasn’t REcovered $6B+, it’s COVERING it (reimbursing customers from company funds). Some was frozen, but Binance is not likely to recover even half.
Bad headlines like this are a big part of why I started covering crypto. Generalist reporters on deadline far too often end up repeating company spin.
@molly0xfff I'd like to know how they can just pull $6+ billion out of their hat like it was nothing. Their reserve was only $1 billion, and what's left is a goodly chunk of change for any company to come up with in cash on short notice.
Stevens ended her career after ending her news conference.

If it's hot, I shall sweat
If it rains, I shall get wet
If I go out, I shan't regret.
@stefano Thanks for sharing the thoughts, Stefano. You know, that's actually the reason why I have notifications on for your profile, to not miss any of your posts. Because you do things differently.
@tomas thank you, Tomáš!
"Stevens’ staff, including her longtime chief of staff, resigned from her office Sunday morning..."
This should be noted and applauded.
Literally everyone who wants to speak their mind will have a soapbox to explain why Mike Rogers is nuts.

I hope all the parents remembered to double-check their kids' #Halloween candy. There are some sick, sick people out there.
@ailurocrat @tranquil_cassowary @ne_ Traditional static analysis tools didn't get mass adopted due to false positives and very limited scope. Lack of adoption wasn't due to lack of compute or memory. It's simply not generally useful enough for most people to justify the effort.
If it was a lot more useful than engineers generally thought it was, there would have been a similar situation of external people submitting tons of valid high severity issues to projects which never happened.
@ailurocrat @tranquil_cassowary @ne_ If people had a way to find tons of high severity vulnerabilities that way, why did none of them ever demonstrate it? Why didn't they claim millions of dollars in bug bounties?
In the past year and especially the past several months, AI models have been getting used to find enormous numbers of existing vulnerabilities. New vulnerabilities are also getting found a lot faster. The average vulnerability lifetime for Linux kernel bugs is finally dropping a lot.
... as if a loud jet carrying a president suddenly cried out overhead and was suddenly landed.

No matter what you may want to think, AI isn't all bad: OverlayFS Sees Many Fixes Thanks To AI Code Review - Phoronix https://www.phoronix.com/news/OverlayFS-Many-Fixes
@BrideOfLinux shhhh not too loud 😉
I'm personally tired of the slopshaming
I'm not sure if I'm going to attempt to do anything for #novembeat this year because to me the point is to flex one's muscles when it comes to making music, and my muscles are already flexed!
For this month my plans are to finally finish Misfits and the soundtrack for the game I've been working on, and maybe get started on finishing one of my other many backburnered albums.
But anyway, the Novembeat submission form is already open, at https://novembeat.com/submit - I look forward to hearing yours!
I continue to use Claude Sonnet + Opus as the coding agents for my side projects but the inability to follow instructions is becoming a real pain.
I regularly have to deal with Claude deciding to ignore my instructions and make the app worse. Are there techniques or other models I should be using?

Lynn Margulis proposed a theory of symbiogenesis--life evolves through organisms merging together to become inseparable--cooperation not just competition drives great leaps. In 1967, her theory was written off as not compelling. It is common knowledge today. https://www.yahoo.com/news/science/articles/her-groundbreaking-theory-origin-life-224144313.html
This week's comic: Decision 2026
To be clear, I applaud the efforts of candidates to go on the offensive and reframe the political conversation around corruption and predatory billionaires. I just remain mystified how so many voters seem drawn to the most obviously unqualified, repulsively corrupt politicians that ever existed.
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
