The darkness may swell at times, but it cannot encroach where my light shines. Just need to turn up the brightness.

LOL on the lady with fabric softener and deodorant in the disaster stash. Also, mouthwash.
Finally, #AI stocks are dropping
Let's hope they burn and crash so maybe we can put a brake on this stupid AI LLM bullshit that ruins about everything
@stux think China's bubble is already starting to pop.
This was a patent by Siemens for a copy-protection scheme where there's a descrambler in front of the prefetch queue.
Each CPU would have a unique permutation - this means that software could be tied to a specific CPU.
Just scrambling 16 bits gives you something like 16! = 20,922,789,888,000 possibilities, but this system also lets you invert bits too, so ... it's a lot.
It's also cryptographically chickenshit, so it would have been cracked immediately

For both explorers, we lost this week.

The last batch of retain/releases in the core parsing loop of SwiftTerm is gone, and now SwiftTerm is on the vtbench on average only 3% slower than Ghostty 1.4
Get it while it is hot!
Using modern Swift, so in the last couple of months, unsafe Swift code and unsafe pointer code was removed. The one area that hurts: I cant use is Array.span as it requires a new OS.

About an hour ago, the judge in this suit granted plaintiffs’ motion for a TRO to prevent the Trump DOJ from continuing to threaten poll workers and election administrators with unfounded criminal prosecution. https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.482447/gov.uscourts.cand.482447.26.0.pdf #LawFedi 1/
Note how comprehensive the TRO is. It itemizes every aspect of the Trump DoJ’s scheme to threaten poll workers and election administrators, and forbids each one.
Courts are wise to the Trump regime’s lawlessness and bad faith. The judge is being super clear about what is prohibited. 2/
I wonder if I can bake animations into the shader like Farm & Feast did
but it'd have to be not per vertex because that would mean every shape needs separate animations
actually it'd probably be better to handle animations on the CPU this sounds like a lot of work for very little gain
"What are you?"
That was the question I heard all too often. It was a question designed to identify my race and ethnicity. At face value, it was intrusive — but beneath the surface, it was inherently cruel.
Every time I heard it, I was being reminded that I didn't fit neatly into their boxes. It forced me to parse out my heritage, weighing which parts of myself were acceptable or understandable to a stranger, and which parts I needed to hide to keep things comfortable. It wasn't an invitation to connect; it was a demand to categorize.
As a multiracial individual — mostly Asian and Caucasian — I had to size someone up before answering, because the wrong answer had real-life consequences. I could answer simply, "I am human," but that answer was a signal in itself.
Being Asian in America was its own challenge, but being the so-called "wrong" type of Asian was also a challenge among other Asians. I knew what it was like to have people who were white, Hispanic, Black, and Asian treat you poorly simply because of my heritage, or because I wasn't one thing or the other, but multiracial.
Discrimination, racism, and general hate is an awful thing. No one should be exposed to such an awful thing.

We use LLM tools in the development of Catodon. If that is something you do not approve of, this may not be the project for you. It works for us 😺
Always good to see this being disclosed

is there... an ... elegant, slim, mathematically robust HS level book on statistics?
This will sound a little gauche but most of the books just have way too many words and not enough content.
@futurebird My favorite statistics book is Statistics for Physicists by BR Martin. Maybe not HS level but no more than college level. As the name hints, aimed toward statistical tests needed in experimental physics, but applicable to many things. worldcat.org can find you a copy.
It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off for them. https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/big-tech/cisco-gives-27-year-old-engineer-unlimited-ai-tokens-to-rewrite-98-percent-of-the-companys-legacy-code-in-24-months-president-plucks-former-startup-founder-telling-him-to-go-nuts
@Meyerweb they won’t need to build a backdoor.
The liberal government of Spain could have rendered the fascist elements powerless long ago. Instead it compromised and dallied.
