I'd expect the soft-hyphen to look weird in certain conditions because it shows up conditionally, allowing a word to break at a given location and show the hyphen, or if it doesn't need to break there the hyphen gets hidden/collapsed.
Each has their usage rules, and I try to stick to using the Right™ one in each situation (though rarely use the soft-hyphen).
It feels like there's either something funky about @rl_dane's configuration, or things aren't getting entered properly.
I just tested multiple machines here with a mix of (fairly stock) FreeBSD & OpenBSD and
«compose»«minus»«minus»«minus» gives an em-dash: —
«compose»«minus»«minus»«period» gives an en-dash: –
and
«compose»«minus»«minus»«space» gives an soft-hyphen (here between "water" and "melon" which should appear if the wrapping forces a break there: watermelon
@khaost @Migueldeicaza @macrumors they could have been an email.
@covercash @khaost @macrumors I do love my videos and web pages.
For decades now billionaires have gotten ultra mega rich on the backs of us all
Not because they had amazingly great services or products but by cheating. There is no way one could become a billionaire honestly
Personally I think it’s overdue that we’re gonna turn the tables and let the billionaires pay of the rest of us, one way or another
Tax them humble again
@stux forget taxing them. Forced expropriation. Don't even wait until they're dead.
“In an embarrassing misstep…Flávio Bolsonaro was arrested by ICE agents just moments after he landed in Miami. …DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said that the agents mistook Bolsonaro for a Latino man they had chased earlier this week… ‘But once he offered proof that he was a fugitive money launderer, they let him go.’” (The Borowitz Report)

@malcircuit it's really frustrating the Ikea labels the JTAG and SWD pins on their devices, but has started enabling the lock bits so that you can't even erase the EFM32 chip without the secret key. I'm considering hot-air replacing the MCU so that I can flash my own firmware with a minimum amount of ewaste.
@th Yeah, it's dumb. I mean, I totally understand why they do that kind of stuff. They don't want people to use the devices as a beachhead into their cloud service(s). It makes sense. I just wish they provided a program that would unlock the chip, erase the flash, and reset the chip. At least then it could be reprogrammed and used for something.

Can Democrats fix the U.S. economy?
Polls show that Americans rank economic issues as the most important, including affordability and inflation. With the Republicans controlling the White House and Congress, this should benefit Democrats. But what could a Democratic Congress actually do?

Fastmail now supports Dynamic DNS for domains whose DNS we host.
It speaks dyndns2 for many routers and ddclient, plus a one-line API for your crontab. Tokens only write to records you've opted in to, never A/AAAA, MX or DKIM.
For some, this blocked hosting DNS with us. Remove it, and we can handle MX, SPF and DKIM. The post walks through exactly how it works.
It's opt-in. Nothing changes unless you set it up.

I was 45 years of age when I learned that this is not Leonid Brezhnev.
@hotdogsladies Yeah, it’s Lenny Bruce.
(…or maybe Lester Bangs.)
This illustration is quite old, but i still think I did a great job at capturing the essence of black cats!

Anon comes the Lord Mayor, who went up to the lords, and then to the other tables to bid wellcome; and so all to dinner.
I sat near Proby, Baron, and Creed at the Merchant Strangers’ table; where ten good dishes to a messe, with plenty of wine, of which I drunk none; but it was very unpleasing that we had no napkins nor change of trenchers, and drunk out of earthen pitchers and wooden dishes.

I used to be a fierce advocate of low-contrast themes (to the extent that I ported Zenburn to the console) but eventually I realized that was because I was keeping my monitor way too bright. Nowadays my biggest problem is monitors that don't get dim enough.
