We are planning to release new Mastodon security updates for versions 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 and nightly this Thursday, Oct 29, at around 14:00 UTC.
It solves a critical severity security issue.
We encourage server administrators to plan for an update in the hours following the release to ensure their instance is protected. These versions will not require database migrations.
@MastodonEngineering if the release tag is predictable, we could have a list of commands to run automatically at certain time instead of waiting to read the release notes for specific instructions

#ExploringPerfumeNDB OK it's very barbie and pink and gourmand and young and I'd NEVER wear this in public because it's so NOT me (I prefer to come across as more feral!) but the sweeter perfumes are rather delicious and I am enjoying them as "sleep fragrances" and they really do soothe me off to sleep. Example Dolce & Gabbana My Devotion Intense. I mean I really do smell like vanilla pie. It's not sophisticated or sexy or sultry at all! But YUM. 😊 :)

@dotstdy @ids1024 Comparing with Vulkan is particularly relevant to me right now: I actually wrote this Wayland test app because I think I'm getting incorrect data from the VK_EXT_present_timing extension as implemented by Mesa on Wayland, and I'm getting some layers of abstraction out of the way of my tests before filing any bug reports. And while I think the API that I actually wanted to use, WGPU, is a relatively nice abstraction, I've needed to bypass it in multiple places to use this Vulkan extension that it doesn't support yet, so I've been learning how Vulkan works. It does feel to me very much like another "make difficult things possible" design, and I sympathize with people who are frustrated trying to use it just as a cross-platform abstraction; it doesn't seem to me like that's where its strengths are going to be.
@jamey @ids1024 another way of looking at it is that you're forced to deal with an api design issue with vulkan (wsi in general is nightmarish, and present timing is even more nightmarish than the rest) combined with another API design issue (frame pacing in Wayland is extremely underdeveloped and over complicated). The idea that a higher level API like wgpu insulates you from these design issues is unfortunately very optimistic in practice, which is broadly my issue with the original argument.
