@EndlessMason this is for a personal non-public thing and the webserver is in the target audience's time zone (i.e. mine)

They wanted to make Free Software illegal and have all computers approved by the government.
“AI Skills” are worthless in 2026
Glad to see you catching up with those of us "left behind" who have known this since day one.

Děkujeme, Brazílie!!!
Do you know what's corny?
Calling things "corny."
I mean, that's exactly how I feel about calling things "cringe".
@atpfm @siracusa For obscure projects embedded in enterprise software, sure, dedicate support. But what does an employee assigned to sudo, XZ, Eggert's time zone files, or PHP actually do all day? Submit PRs that never get accepted? Watch for security issues that rarely emerge? Engineers are scarce resources, regardless of company size. Isn't it reasonable to assume that if sudo/XZ/PHP break, the whole industry breaks, and we'll collectively deal with it?
@evansteiner But beyond that stuff, having more people paid to work on these projects will help prevent catastrophic problems, which is vastly preferable to just waiting for them to happen (because something so important is being maintained by a lone volunteer) and then assuming the world will rally to quickly come up with a fix before the hackers get through.
“Entering detachedly, observing a person, you can sometimes so travel down the filament that you might wake up to find yourself walking off inside them, become them, so much by sympathy, yourself forgotten, and seeing the world from where they stand. Or looking more personally you catch the gleams of response to you and break into flower, building the arches of which our human life is made. A gleam from them gives you a foothold, one from you gives them more root, till the branches can grow and each stands, a tree, in the other’s atmosphere. This between you is an arch, by which each is drawn out upright; beneath which the heavenly bird flies, whose roost is not on this sphere.
“Held in your hand a person may blossom, break open and become transfigured. If everyone knew how ravishing they were the street would be blind with light.”
@jalefkowit I love the book cover art, too.

What it was like seeing Nina live in the early sixties.

'Sitting near enough to feel Simone’s presence, the audience heard a bass line followed by her striking a soft minor chord on the piano; the sound entered the audience and the space. She sat at the piano and her band formed an arc around her. The musicians included long-time collaborator guitarist Al Schackman, bassist Chris White, and drummer Rob Hamilton.'
The article says that Brackley/Jackson was a poet and this one foray into prose was poorly received, which is too bad, because I would kill multiple men with a hammer to be able to write prose like that
@jalefkowit Seriously.
ron. slurp him.
@BestGirlGrace ron why didn't you read the dog
Tonight's Low Quality Ad is for this Halloween Felting Kit. They estimate these will take you two hours each to make. Or if you're artistically challenged like myself, two months.

On this day in 2012, I asked whether you should wait for Windows 8. My answer: get it if you have a touchscreen PC, and if Windows runs fine for you now, don't feel you have to upgrade. Look how many people were still on XP. #Windows8 #WindowsXP #RetroTech
Wait for Windows 8 - or Not?

this isn't even for a thing I care about per se, I was just surprised to learn that a thing I wrote like 20 years ago and occasionally glance at has been doing it based on gmtime this whole time, since I usually only look at it in the morning
@fluffy
The webserver likely isn't in anybody's timezone so its locale stuff is going to be wrong for 24/25ths of the globe.
Turn it to a time_t and feed it to js on the client side and it might even show up in their language for free!
(Sorry for the "just don't do that then")
