The laziest of all headlines is “X is doing Y in response to Z” when X’s entire raison d’etre is Y and it was already doing Y and wants to do more Y and loves doing Y and would have done Y anyway.
No, the Israeli state is not ethnically cleansing the West Bank “in response to” an attack that killed two Israeli soldiers. The Israeli state is ethnically cleansing the West Bank because it has been doing so since 1967 and has made the subjugation or elimination of the Palestinian people its defining and paramount goal.
A young boy that I suspect was probably a Ukrainian refugee came up and asked in English if he could pet Odin "because this is my favorite breed of dog," and then clearly began arguing with his mother in their native language that see, it's fine, he's ready for the responsibility of a dog over twice his size
then we ran into Ace; despite living in the same building, we hadn't seen him in weeks. He's grown enough to be more of a fun playmate for Odin, shown here being very Normal about it

the man is an idiot; what does he think war is about?
War may, where possible, be about directly eliminating the enemy's command authority.
The magical thing about the current moment is people can write 3,000 word essays on how AI is changing software development and just plop “I’ve never written any code btw” in the middle of it and carry on regardless without any shame or self-doubt.
Like, I don’t rock up to an oncology conference and start telling them about helping patients through chemo, but maybe I would if I had the unearned self-confidence of a digital transformation consultant with a $20/mo ChatGPT account.
Unbelievable.
Understandable reaction to the concept of Inkjet Printers
Mirko Brombin is working to get Microsoft Office running reliably on Linux. He also thinks the apps cloning Office and Photoshop pixel for pixel cross a line. We talked about both, plus AI agents, Vanilla OS and his new Sinty OS.
@itsfoss Sorry, I have zero interest in getting M$ Office working on Linux. It is a terrible product from a terrible company. I wish he would work on Libre Office instead.
Mastodon v5 alpha with Mastodon Bird UI v5 alpha and additional sidebar content in the test/dev environment for our Mastodon fork, mementomori.social.
It's coming together nicely.

@rolle So pretty. I find it funny that we both seem to have had a similar idea about a blurry banner. Yours is better though. Looking forward to seeing how you modify the rest of the UI. Mine's mostly just a re-colour.
“I am proud to say that as part of our new union contract, Current Affairs recently adopted one of the strictest anti-AI policies in the publishing industry. No text that is AI-generated may be published in our magazine. No AI-generated art may be used as a Current Affairs illustration. When you read Current Affairs, you are going to be reading the thoughts of a human, and seeing the results of human artistry.”
