fedi is the town square, in that you, random member of society, can wander in and be in that space and even speak your mind to your heart’s content, on matters large or small, to an audience or to no one at all, for any reason you so choose, and so can anyone else who is a member of society.

(fedi is actually some thousands of overlapping and partially co-existing town squares with really odd acoustics, but that’s beside this point, which I’ll ultimately get to, downthread now probably.)

In February, SpaceX switched off the thousands of smuggled Starlinks Russian troops were using. Russian drones were grounded, commanders blinded, and Ukraine broke through east of Sloviansk.

Since 14 October, Ukraine is the one losing its link. Russia could get the same opening, David Axe writes.

Easily one of my least-favorite things about modern operating systems is how addicted they are to doing shit in the background on their own with zero feedback to you the user, but blocking things like installing apps for MINUTES while it happens.

Here's me trying to update the Mastodon iOS app right after turning on the iPhone. It took about a minute spinning that indicator doing nothing. And that's after I got TestFlight to load in the first place.

Android does this as well btw.

No kidding.

Yeah we’re fucked.

I’m hoping that the new PM might actually do something, anything, to reverse this rightwards turn from Labour

But so far he’s not doing anything, good or bad
