Is there a reason why the publishing instance is not downloading the preview image, and then submits it with the post to the other instances? This way they would not have to fetch it themselves.
Meanwhile, over on Hacker News, the sloppers are big mad at OpenBSD for ridiculing "AI" in their 8.0 release song and gif.

lololol *seriously*?! *That's* what advanced mode looks like?!
The compose box goes *here*?! Seriously?? Why?? Why that… why those margins?? Why that particular tiny overlap?? Why is the line distinguishing the overlapping from the underlapping box so tiny?
WHY HAVE YOU DEDICATED THIS HUGE BLOCK OF SPACE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN TO A GIANT "FEEDS" BOX I WOULD NEVER, EVER, I PROMISE NEVER, CLICK ON, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I *HAD* THOSE FEEDS, WHEN YOU COULD JUST PUT THE COMPOSE BOX THERE LIKE IN THE OLD, GOOD VERSION OF THEY LAYOUT?

Ukraine’s drone rescue of wounded soldier puts much touted idea into practice
Ukraine’s latest drone innovation may boost bleak odds of evacuating casualties.

@arstechnica The human race is intelligent enough to invent life-saving drones but not enough to abolish life-purging conflicts. Literally.

Absolutely LOVE this idea but I feel like a solid implementation would be a pain in the fanny (and it also requires other peers to be online). I dip in and out over the day myself but I don’t know what others use case is.
Also it is far less trustworthy and harder to block bad actors (V’s removing a known bad actor from a relatively small peer group).
Idk, the part of uptime of peers is solved precisely by the fact that not every peer will be connected at the same moments that every other peer. If I’m connected at 10pm, it’s highly likely that there will be at least another single peer at that hour that has what I’m pulling.
As for bad actors, that’s something that at the end of the day is unavoidable. Though with some automated systems could be possible to make it more hard for them, but it’s not that different from a centralised approach, and thus is better because is computationally more efficient.

It is, but that’s what defederation is for: If there are instances that are being sketchy, they are supposed to get cut off from the rest of the Fediverse.
Linux Distros need to stop shipping outdated, unsupported applications
Egos ruining Open Source projects, distros vs software conflicts - Linux Weekly News
There hasn't been any work done on KDE's Tokodon in like 3-4 months. Considering how slow it is and how many basic features it's still missing, I'm losing faith it's really going anywhere. I'm not blaming anyone or asking for free labour - it's just a statement of fact.
:|
@thomholwerda I've been looking for a decent desktop client. Tokodon came up and seemed like one of the more active ones, relatively speaking. Looks like fediverse client development might be spread a bit too thin :/
@tragivictoria @aks I only use it for something I'm actively working on. My desktop is mostly clean or has like 1-3 documents/files on it.
@thomholwerda @aks I honestly constantly forget that other desktop support desktop icons. I never missed them or anything
There's also a huge amount of concert footage?
Like, at least 6 hours of shows. Not all of them have audio, but some do.
I could always pull a "blank generation" and just overdub the footage I have with the audio I have.
Alright, transfer is finished and I'm listening to a CD comp we first put out in 2015.
It was called Kill The Scene.
I have heard a few songs from this release since then, but I probably haven't heard the whole thing since 2015.
I might have found a box of discs of this release as well, I'll have to see if they were ever burned or if they were just printed.
