THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
If you package/distribute/maintain root stores or chain verifiers, act immediately.
If you know how to remove trust in a root, consider doing it now.
Otherwise, prepare to update systems as patches/mitigations come.
Go users, update to Go 1.27.3 or Go 1.26.10.

Tileset progress~
Big delays due to life happenings, and then also took some willpower-mustering to resume work on these painful water tiles. But, all they're all defeated now... I can move on.
Scottish government set to drop opposition to new oil and gas fields
https://www.politico.eu/article/scottish-government-to-drop-opposition-new-oil-gas-fields-north-sea-energy/
The SNP has had a long-standing “presumption against” new oil fields.
This will bring Zero benefit to the large majority of people in Scotland... Who are the SNP really working for?

Meta ordered to name execs who approved torrenting for AI training
Meta argues nobody “decided” to pirate books to train AI.

Framework Laptop 12 (2026) Review: The Linux MacBook Neo alternative?
“This overhauls the web interface and has moved and renamed some things (for example "Lists" are now called "Feeds").”
Why? What’s the real benefit? This reminds me of Microsoft changing their Office menus with every release. No point, and inconvenient to the user. 🤷🏻♂️
@chessert "List" wasn't a descriptive enough name for people to understand how or why to use them. We want to make them much more powerful in the future, and as a first step, gave them a name that tells you more about what they are: custom feeds.

@Migueldeicaza You can get little strips with the notes printed on them that go across the top of the keyboard until you get the feel for it.

Microsoft has been warehousing Nvidia rigs it doesn't have data centre power for since last year. Amazon admits it's doing the same:

this is for preferential deals with Nvidia so they don't get cut off

In an interesting moment to watch, legally: https://www.404media.co/reverse-engineer-anything-is-the-new-wild-west-of-ai/
I'm not a fan of / don't respect vibecoding, but I *am* a fan of jailbreaking devices and *legalizing* decompiling (notably, the decompiling work that's interesting is not happening by vibecoders though).
It's an interesting moment because previously corporations have been in the "we can do whatever we want because we're exploiting the commons" perspective, and now things are starting to hit against their own stuff. What will happen? I don't know.
I'm not sure what is going to happen from a legal perspective, but I think we are looking at one of three outcomes:
- This all gets declared legal, which would be a huge win against the ways corporations hold copyright over people
- This all gets declared *illegal*, which could be a win against a bunch of the business cases genAI hinges upon
- But unfortunately, there is also the likely third option: big corporations become allowed to do these things, individuals are not
@cwebber They'll cook a "DMCA like" law making reverse engineering illegal and we will descend another step to hell.
