A university course is currently trying out Pixelfed
A few weeks ago, we started noticing a number of applications on pixelfed.ca, where the user would say that they needed to register for a course. I don’t have full confirmation, but I’m fairly certain that this is a legitimate wave of signups from students at a Canadian university.
I’m sharing this post for a few reasons:
- I thought it was neat
Personally, I’m excited that people are trying out Pixelfed and using it in coursework like this. If you are one of the students, now seeing this post, welcome! :) I hope that the project goes well, and that you have a pleasant experience on the platform. Feel free to share any and all feedback.
- Some of the posts may look like spam at first
You might be seeing similar looking posts from different accounts on your feed. My guess is that the course has specific requirements and example templates. However, there’s also plenty of real content (ex. artwork, photography, etc.), so I don’t think it’s going to be disruptive
- Please report anything that seems off
As always, you can report inappropriate content through the UI. For urgent issues, please email us at support@pixelfed.ca. You can also DM admin@lemmy.ca as there is overlap with our Pixelfed and Lemmy team members.
"no PHP" has been a firm demand for all of my jobs since college.

I always wonder whether cats purposefully (or subconsciously, if that means anything for a cat) lie down in such a way as to camouflage themselves, as Asher is sort of doing in this picture with the rug pattern.
@richpuchalsky Asher rolls around the entire area rug, quite randomly 😹
La fin de la conscription a écarté les citoyens des débats militaires. L'armée, elle, multiplie ses missions intérieures. Résultat : l'exécutif dispose d'un instrument supplémentaire de sécurité, sans avoir à débattre de son rôle dans la société.

people should just set security_vulnerabilities = 0 in php.ini
kinda weird that it’s enabled by default
@bridget you have catapulted me back to a decade ago when I made a similar joke that we ought to just set the usability flag to True by default

Absolutely true. I'm pro-AI, but please don't do this. IMO, you may use assistance when writing a complicated email to some administration or government institution, especially if your level in the official language of the country where you live is not so advanced (and still reverify what you get and ideally edit manually) — I did that when I had to write to German bureaucracy. But never write personal messages with the help of AI, really, just don't.
I've found using AI to help me collect my thought and structure them on highly emotional topics to be a double edged sword, but one I found helpful.
It was a person who was very close to me who was espousing antisemitic hate and then when I called her on it, started to engage in abuse patterns.
I felt them but couldn't express it. ChatGPT helped with that.
What I responded with was somewhat stilted but I found it helpful in providing me a mechanism to bring order to my thoughts.
