@molly0xfff@hachyderm.io I’m just imagining someone to finally build a quantum computer to crack a root CA certificate, and finally, after decades of cutting-edge science and billions of dollars in investment, the screen just shows “Private Key Solved: 4”

I used Linux on a phone for 30 days, here's why I'm sticking with it, and why you likely won't!
@cr1901 @lispi314 @dalias @pinskia I can't follow you on that train of thought, because I never did. I always cared, and I always thought that the ones who didn't were the ones without a self-preservation instinct. "What, removing the simple lifeline in favor of the complex one that we can't bootstrap?" "Yeah, why not? It's not like we'll need to ever do that again" "But don't you want to have the possibility of it?" "Trust me bro, it will work"
That's a big part of why I never thrived in corporate environments, that were all about efficiency and not at all about robustness or cleanliness.
The long term impact of this #eMudhra intermediate CA cert private key disclosure: It is now possible to perform TLS MiTM to millions and millions of older #IoT devices (or other devices that won't or can't get updated). The root certificate that has signed the affected intermediate certificate was added to trust stores in about beginning of 2019 (*). It expires only in 18-feb-2043, while the intermediate cert itself expires 24-apr-2040.
This opens the avenue for all kinds of nasty things.

the hades art is good but it's not sexy but they act like it is, it feels devoid of emotion tbh
25 years ago this would be rejected for looking too much like concept art, it has a real concept art vibe to it you used to see for moviemaking materials. I can't explain it well, I'm sorry.

Finally we have created the random number "4" from the famous XKCD strip "do not just make your random number 4"
Anyway you can tell they were XKCD readers instead of Dilbert readers because the random number from Dilbert was "9"
