I'm starting to get calendar invites for events in "November." Lol who's idea was this? That's not a real month, what da heck even is a Novemb?
I've come to the sad conclusion that the amount of hate speech and moderation system on Mastodon and the Fediverse at large is not an accident but a choice.
This is based having been on the Fediverse since 2018, having run two instances, a single-user and a multi-user instance, having gone to a Fediverse conference, given talks with technical proposals on mitigation techniques, and having worked with the primary author of the ActivityPub protocol specification.
These issues have been known about for more than a decade and yet the major platforms don't take them seriously. At some point, when a bug exists for a very long time and has multiple suggestions for addressing, failure to do so is a deliberate choice.
@_Rosamary_ ho he vist, el que tots sabem ara queda demostrat, Movistar+ mostrant només les imatges molt borroses per evitar delatar al Real Madrid.

This Google Cloud outage in Europe is huge. Almost every service offline, including Google SecOps (Chronicle), for almost 4 hours now.
In an interesting moment to watch, legally: https://www.404media.co/reverse-engineer-anything-is-the-new-wild-west-of-ai/
I'm not a fan of / don't respect vibecoding, but I *am* a fan of jailbreaking devices and *legalizing* decompiling (notably, the decompiling work that's interesting is not happening by vibecoders though).
It's an interesting moment because previously corporations have been in the "we can do whatever we want because we're exploiting the commons" perspective, and now things are starting to hit against their own stuff. What will happen? I don't know.
I'm not sure what is going to happen from a legal perspective, but I think we are looking at one of three outcomes:
- This all gets declared legal, which would be a huge win against the ways corporations hold copyright over people
- This all gets declared *illegal*, which could be a win against a bunch of the business cases genAI hinges upon
- But unfortunately, there is also the likely third option: big corporations become allowed to do these things, individuals are not
@cwebber As soon as I started reading this post, option 3 leapt into my head. That will assuredly be the way things turn out, unfortunately.

Health messages on cigarette packets have worked. We should do the same with betting shops. A third of the frontage should have a big yellow on black sign saying "We're still in business because you keep on losing. You're all losers."

L'interfície avançada de Mastodon v5.0.0-alpha1 ja m'agrada moooolt més que la actual.
@mcc sarcasm detected. did you not want an answer to the question in your post? perhaps it was rhetorical?
@tael In a previous post, I asked if librewolf correctly updated the certificates, but had not received an answer until your post. I appreciated you letting me know

Add metadata with a checksum of the og one with signature and let each client check that up.
If it’s a signed checksum then maybe. But if the of instance is doing the abusing then it won’t help.
The part I agree with most: the fundamentals do not change. Phishing-resistant MFA everywhere, not just the VPN. EDR on everything. Watch east-west traffic and DNS. Assume one set of creds gets popped and make sure it does not open the whole building.
"Syssk: The Alien Tarot of Ancient Japan" is a highly obscure tarot deck created by Armenian poet Lilit "Baba" Yagian, revolving around an alien (marked only by the stolen head of H. R. Giger's Xenomorph) named Syssk who "finds herself unexpectedly marooned in Medieval Japan" and "attempts to navigate a human society while assuming the role of a samurai."
The cards are created via crude digital collage, most prominently using Ukiyo-e woodblock and anime art with some psychedelic filters. A book containing lengthy explanations of the cards, Armenian-language only, is available on archive.org

New: court records show the DHS officials who tried to search the man who wiped his GrapheneOS phone lied. They pushed him about having child abuse images. Documents reveal that was a pretext; he wasn't suspected of this at all. He's a Stop Cop City activist https://www.404media.co/dhs-said-they-searched-man-who-wiped-grapheneos-phone-for-child-abuse-material-they-lied/
@josephcox I see you chose not to mention the controversy over Stop Cop City, which is, in many ways, an extension of Black Lives Matter, and has been dubbed "terrorist" despite consisting solely of peaceful protesters exercising their First Amendment rights.

“What I REALLY need is a big-ass coffee!”
is an actual phrase I exclaimed in a dream last night. 😂
This is going to be my new catchphrase. 😁
@jaredwhite Not to be confused with Gwyneth Paltrow's big ass-coffee.
(This is also the different between "but first coffee" and "butt-first coffee".)

In the event it's unclear, this is a compliment to all of my fellow weirdos. Thanks for helping to make a cozy and comfortable space where we can feel safe to be ourselves.
