Aside: If anything I write ever scans as "possibly AI slop", I don't use AI at all on my blog. I even bitched at Automattic for months about them trying to force AI onto me.
Rather, I'm like a sponge when it comes to other people's writing quirks, so being exposed to slop over the years has probably accumulated bad habits like microplastics in my blood. I've also used emdashes for years.
I'm aware of the Claude-ism that goes, "That's not X. It's Y." Insofar as I can, I'm not going to deliberately change my writing to avoid sounding like a cheap copy of... well, myself.
Basically, "Why should I change? They're the ones that suck!"
Do I know anyone who would be interested in a commission to draw a friendly, slightly cartoony logo image based roughly on this picture? I'm very explicitly looking for a traditional artist, not an AI slop-erator.

This does _not_ want to come off.

Walk Like an Egyptian
I really enjoy photographing great blue herons (Ardea herodias) standing alone along the ocean's edge in the early morning light. In this image, the bird's silhouette and deliberate stride remind me of the figures depicted in ancient Egyptian murals.

Why is this so funny. I can’t stop laughing about Andy Piper omnipotent invisible judge and executioner
I finally made a gallery for my daily photo challenges that I did in 2020, 2022, and 2024. Now I wish that I did 2026.
I took a backup of my mastodon posts to get the alt text and captions that I wrote to incorporate into the galleries.
PAINT? PAINT?
MICROSOFT FUCKING PAINT?
CVE?
REMOTE?
*smugly* I'm immune to the MSPaint RCE because I never upgraded to Windows 11
It's so disheartening to explain this over and over working in critical infrastructure cybersecurity full time. It's because everyone demands cheap, fast remote support and AI enabled real time telemetry and control. We’ve worked ourselves into this corner through demanding connectivity and I see next to nothing truly airgapped anymore. In fact, it’s impossible to convert some critical systems back at this point.
A lot of our power infrastructure is so complex with microgrids and renewables and real time billing and buy backs that it can’t be switched to manual anymore. A lot of industrial vendors won’t provide warranty support if their remote access is removed.
And this is all happening in super low maturity environments with limited if any cybersecurity resources or tools.
We’re trying, but the state of things is pretty dire, the barrier to basic disruptive attacks is lowering rapidly, and we can’t find enough people who understand the industrial environments and cybersecurity on thirty year old computers fast enough to hire close to enough people.
