Y Combinator invests in dozens of surveillance companies including Flock along with helping to enable them. Their moderators put their thumb on the scales at Hacker News actively supporting attacks on the GrapheneOS project including libel and harassment towards our team members.
Nearly every Hacker News thread about GrapheneOS has a dozen accounts posting blatant fabrications about it. There's a mix of fresh accounts and long term serial harassers who have engaged in years of personal attacks. We've talked to the HN mods and it's clear they support it.
I think very much the "waste of our rates" line from @stephen would work.
It's a bit more upfront expense to plant and maintain for 3 years but then should be mostly self-sufficient.
Have you rung the council to complain about noise from the petrol trimmers? Maybe the complaints cancel each other out? Or is it last-complaint-standing wins?
@futuresprog @stephen @artnacrea @joncounts I'd love the council to have a pat response: "your aesthetic complaint has been recorded but rejected because it is going to raise your rates, it's socially negligent and dangerous, and it's environmental vandalism in our declared climate crises. Get over yourself".

Fedigest, a hand-picked front page for Lemmy, PieFed and Mbin
Made a thing. Fedigest is a self-hosted site where you pick posts from anywhere in the threadiverse, write a few lines about why they’re worth reading, and publish them as one front page.
Comments are pulled live from the original thread. Want to vote or reply? Enter your home instance once, it gets saved in your browser, and from then on every post takes you straight to the same post on your own instance. It can also follow communities and add new posts automatically.
Comes with 15 themes (light/dark pairs follow your device, and there’s a terminal one with an old PC font), and you can make your own with a live preview.
Runs as one Docker container, SQLite inside. Still early, version 0.1.3. Built with help from an LLM.

The New York Times is in talks to buy Letterboxd for around $330 million https://www.theverge.com/news/1028375/the-new-york-times-letterboxd-acquisition-report
I have had the best evening. There were fireworks that we looked fabulous at (no pics of fireworks cos we were, y'know, enjoying the fireworks), and then V for Vendetta in bed together with the whole family 💕
I am filled with love and joy and hope.
So pleased you’ve both had such a great evening ❤️
Analysis: Will the blue wave sink Chuck Schumer? Incoming Dems seek 'new blood' | USA Today
Incoming Democrats think they will need a strong leader to accomplish what they promised voters, and lately many in the party have soured on Schumer... [El-Sayed ]"It’s about action ...who are the other options here and who is going to get us to a point where we’re passing legislation, putting it on the president’s desk and forcing him to make a decision."

Sick of smug “well you should be using certificates*, not passwords” reply guys today. A proper password has plenty enough entropy to protect against brute forcing, so it comes down to whether the server has an auth bug in its password code or its certificate code, and I’ve seen both plenty of times.
* SSH keys are certificates.
Notifcation on on my phone about a delivery: "Jesus is approaching with your order". Now I wish I had tidied up the house more.
@mattblaze Jesus saves but Moses scores on the rebound.

1/3 — PARIS
The motherfuckin resistance in Paris ain't slowing down!
Yesterday, students took to the streets demanding better schools and an end to government bullshit.
And when the riot pigs tried to block their march, these courageous pupils PUSHED RIGHT THE FUCK THROUGH!
Sometimes resistance doesn't have to look spectacular to be powerful.
Just look at this video. The sheer number of peeps standing together is a beautiful motherfuckin reminder that WE ARE MORE THAN THEM!
And when enough of us stand together, even the pigs and their machinery of repression can be overwhelmed.
The state ain't invincible, motherfuckers!
ANYTHING IS FUCKIN POSSIBLE!
@JulianOliver @themadhatter I like it for its ease of use, but as an administrator I feel like I'm gambling. I want to trust that somehow this setup is secure and it's not my problem to analyze it further.
Plus: It's containerized.
Minus: They add the `sudo` and map the docker socket into the container.
> I wish they would finally set a sane de facto umask for NC data directory!
I'm still confused about what the difference is between the config volume and where the data is stored...
@benjaoming @themadhatter Yes, also the fact that by default the webserver is exposed directly to the www, with no reverse proxy. But, all said, as a whole, it's a good starting setup to help get people off 3 major platforms on the toxic stack. So well done to them.
As for the actual account data, it is the defined by $NEXTCLOUD_DATA (IIRC) in the YAML. But if you check the perms, they are readable by others, gulp. You can set 'localstorage.umask' => 027; or similar in the config.php to fix.
Important reporting on the working conditions of the people building all those data centers. Sure, capitalism, it's exploitative, but the degree of neglect of safety standards and human rights is staggering.
