If you are in a "solidly X" state, downballot voting STILL MATTERS.

County stuff, City stuff. Your local schools. The water board. It all still matters and your vote always matters.

I suspect US Mastodon probably has a higher percentage of voters than the general public, but I'll still say it. The city I live in actually just barely overflows the Rose Bowl. All those city votes matter. Sometimes with more of an effect than the Federal stuff. California Initiatives? Kinda vital.

Vote.

Holy shit.

This guy takes a couple of minutes of audio from a security camera anywhere in the US, with no clues from the video whatsoever, and finds the exact spot where it was recorded.

How?

By correlating the Doppler curve sounds from two almost inaudible planes passing by with public ADS-B flight data.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UytYrhYLOKI (29 min)

I think this is the #OSINT video of the year.

I discovered a sound that leaks your exact location (and it's everywhere)

@danimrich Diesel: 26105€ Netto
Strom: 15000€ Netto

Differenz: 11105€ pro Fahrzeug

Summe: 3.89 Millionen Euro

Das ist trotzdem ne Menge Holz. (Das sind natürlich alles nur Überschlagsrechnungen. Ich gehe davon aus, dass die Polizei eh günstigere Verträge bekommt, dank des Volumens.)

danimrich

@danimrich@mastodon.social 1 min. ago

@dgar this right here is why the fediverse can't become mainstream yet, and might never be able to. we have loads of scammers that prey on people who don't know how federation works, and moderation that is so insufficient to prevent them that we have to circulate community posts showing what they look like and how to avoid falling for them

A new LLM-powered scam: research an author, research a publication they write for, research the title of something they've written, register a similar gmail address, go phishing.

Hey Cory, my name is also Cory Doctrow. It seems like a publishing house is paying you royalties for the rights of something you published (everybody pees) and accidentally sent it to me instead. It was a payment for $250 from a publishing company called Locus publications.

I am wanting to make things right ofc, lol I didn't work for this money so it's not just for me to take it. Let me know what you think if you see this. — Hey Cory, my name is also Cory Doctrow. The advantage of this whole thing is that I don't need to implement Blueprint::default(). I'd still need a default impl for script, so that one could write:

http-server default {
bind-to "127.0.0.1:42069"
}

And it would use the default script. But that's less bothersome to do that Blueprint::default().

Memories of a decent person

@algernon@come-from.mad-scientist.club 3 min. ago

First obstacle:

http-server default {
script {
configuration file="nsoe.kdl"
}
}

At the moment, the configuration loader loads the specified file immediately, which means I'd have to give it a search path so it can do so. I'm not sure I want that. I'd prefer if Blueprint was unaware of the search path, and it would be the part of the code that takes a blueprint, and constructs the servers and whatnot, that part would take care of searching.

So, for the time being, I'll just remove configuration file=.... I'll add it back later, along with initial-seed file=... and possible some other similar things.

Growing a moustache is just the beginning 🥸

This Movember, let's talk about men's mental health.

Stigma and social expectations can make it harder for men to speak openly about their mental health or seek support. Challenging these barriers matters.

💙 The EU's comprehensive approach to mental health promotes prevention, supports mental wellbeing and aims to improve access to quality, affordable mental healthcare.

Talking about mental health should never be something to shy away from.
