Even though they aren't dead yet, I've already written eulogies for my close family members that I'll read out at their funerals. It pays to be prepared for inevitabilities. You never know when it'll happen & I wouldn't be in a good mental state to write anything after the fact.

New maps with November 1 data are out!
New maps with OpenStreetMap data from November 1 are now out. Press “Check for Updates” to see them in-app!
Also: Did you know that the State of the Map Spain conference will be held upcoming weekend in Madrid? You might be able to catch some CoMaps folks!
@oheso Which is frustrating because I've seen videos and it looks so cool.
@moira Right? Unfortunately I don’t have any place I can do this.

Everybody needs at least one friend who can tell them when it is time to STOP TALKING
@jalefkowit "I don't like that this problematic guy commented nicely on some things the guy I lost to said, I better support the guy who is fiercely loyal to an unstable, demented fascist."

The thing I learned that surprised me the most about interacting with my colleagues in the Brisbane office last week was this: no one knows you can Ctrl-F on a web page to search for text.
@futzle What?! I use this multiple times a week. Maybe more than daily.

Just go ahead and try! I have an account on a local instance and actually sold something (to the instance admin :D). The interface is a bit clunky but doing it’s job.
@oheso Mmm. Yeah, I have none of the gear :/

@futurebird Did you see this?! It's such a great little ant drawing.

When participating in democracy gets you an AI slop 'I voted' sticker https://www.404media.co/voting-in-2026-is-getting-an-ai-slop-i-voted-sticker/
@josephcox Just keep pointing it out, y'all! Once people start noticing that all AI slop looks the same, it will become the WordArt of this decade. I even see some signals around me that this realization helps folks recognize and distrust AI generated text.
Anyone else on the Shop having issues posting pics?
I keep getting a 500 error with no details as to what is wrong 😐 On web and Tusky.
I think most MPs, sadly, had no idea what they were signing or through what completely broken, top-secret process - recall we only heard about the contents of the TPPA agreement because of *Wikileaks*. Our Gov't was AOk with keeping the text from NZers, including MPs. Only negotiators saw it (I'm pretty sure at least one or two of them are up to their armpits in Atlas Network). I think the MPs were naive bumpkins who took Groser & Parker's word. Dodgy as.
Prof Jane Kelsey (who's on the Fedi but I won't dox her) was the leading light in the discussion - the only sane one in the room - the others were surely captured (or just really dumb, with misplaced loyalties), especially Steve Jacobi.
Not sure Prof Kelsey identified Atlas Network involvement in orchestrating the *writing* of the 5000 page TPPA agreement but I'd be interested to hear from her (discretion guaranteed)
@moira Definitely not cheap if you don’t have the gear already.
@oheso Mmm. Yeah, I have none of the gear :/

Has anyone here used or maintained Flohmarkt?
What was you experience like? Did you use the built-in messaging? Did you feel that it respected your data privacy enough?
If you maintained one, did you have any major issues or concerns?
I’d love to have an alternative to fb marketplace but nothing seems to be as user-friendly to get people using it. I would love to eventually start a server if it is doable for a semi-capable person.
Here is a completely normal and rational thing for the interface to do. When you click the "like" button, scroll the window and move the post you just clicked on away from where you were looking! Then move it again a second later without any further clicks! "Yes, you are absolutely correct, that is a thing that you wanted and expected."
@jwz I made a better "advanced" client, its an SPA with a ton of customization and a tweetdeck interface.
"Activist Checklist is 'AI' Slop Fucking Garbage"
From the blurb on the back:
> TL:DR
> Activist Checklist sprang into existence and aggressively pushed themselves on the movement. Their site is AI slop, and their advice is not suitable for radicals, yet radicals keep boosting it. They have dubious ideological alignment in that they are AI advocates and can’t sufficiently critique the dangerous parts of the tech space that activists often end up relying on for infrastructure. Their advice endangers people in subtle ways, and it doesn’t aim to radicalize them. Their website simply should not exist.

Some more highlights:
- not understand how cops do location tracking and therefore not recommending sufficient protections against it
- recommending not-actually-private solutions and apps
- being completely AI-brained and making horrible recommendations, just generally speaking
- using AI for content and translations
- using AI to do SEO including generating manipulative content to pull in users
- trying to seed Wikipedia and other sites with backlinks for SEO
- collecting fucking e-mail addresses during a period of heightened repression
Stop recommending them. Ask people who have recommended them to pull their recommendation. Trash their zines. Flip their tables.
