@ai6yr
I believe the official genre for that type of article is "cringe" 😔
We never tried this with the summer rental, but managed to just barely fit this monster of a van into our one car garage. Can't walk behind it or in front of it... but... TECHNICALLY it fits.
@bigzaphod Count yourself at least a little lucky. We have this driveway with walls on both sides (our house is on a hill above street level) that’s technically WIDE enough to park a modern car in… if you have no need to open any doors wider than 12”.
That rhymes poorly.

Test install of my geocentric orrery on our dining room ceiling. Still need spheres for the earth/moon/sun and to print ten more ecliptic constellation, as well as to wire the motor.
2% gyroid infill is really pretty.

Anyway, I'm going to go with the smart alecs and say no, but it's probably not that important anyway. Thanks to everyone who replied and responded.
@evan This thread has me loling. The serious analysis of such a stupid, stupid situation really nails modern journalism.
"Essentially, it appears I got fired because I reposted a thread on social media that the publisher took personally."

Another found local schools "and then a cold war nuclear bunker that I didn't know about." I would very much like to know where my nearest bunker is, thanks.
That same thread had a fair warning. The half-hour walk is a straight-line circle, so a river or a wall between you and an article doesn't count against it. Your location is handled in one line on the site: "Your location stays in this browser: links you share don't include it."
This is very much Jefferson's kind of project.
According to Ed Jefferson's site, he makes internet-powered interactive things and writes for The Guardian, Time Out and the New Statesman, and one of his earlier toys describes any location on Earth by listing nine actors who have played Doctor Who.
Try it on your own street first, then on the street where you grew up. You'll probably learn something about both, and you might find a story worth telling your neighbors.
Your neighborhood already has a Wikipedia page. It was just scattered.
Someone Made Wikipedia for Just Your Neighborhood...
Ed Jefferson built a site that shows you Wikipedia, but only the parts you could walk to. Local Wikipedia describes itself as "Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you."
It works because a lot of Wikipedia already knows where it is. The site uses geocoded pages only, pulled from Wikipedia's geosearch, which MediaWiki documents as a search "for articles around the given point."
The script behind Local Wikipedia sets that half-hour walk at 1.5 miles. If fewer than 25 things are that close, it reaches out to the nearest 25 within about six miles, and it stops at 500 (sorry, downtown Manhattan).
The fun is in what people turn up. On Hacker News, one commenter hit "random article" three times and got "three weird stories I didn't know about the history of places within a few blocks of me in Portland, Oregon."

The Dems did this to Obama too. That’s why we didn’t get universal healthcare. Our job this time is to ostracize the weasels like Stevens and Newsome, and vote in folks who will support El-Sayed. Well-spoken progressives who can pull us out of this nightmare were in get the support. “Centrist” losers can be sent packing.

@DBailey635 I would not ban selling patterns, not everyone has the time / means to build their own shop, so, it makes sense to allow those on Etsy. A lot of pattern creators are legit. But they need to have stricter controls.
I usually prefer ribblr or ravelry, but I guess they don't perform as well as etsy in terms of sales for pattern creators. The system is so broken, you are basically forced on those because your own site won't rank as high in search results.
@stephaniewalter It looks like they're banning AI patterns and asking for photographic proof of completed samples, but, how will they tell the difference between real and AI images? Not all AI-generated photos embed digital watermarks like SynthID, so there are ways to circumvent the photo proof requirement.
Independent human review by knitters would be the only way to ensure a pattern works... and if it doesn't, sellers should be booted, or forced to refund.

@ai6yr Doing my best! Looking for my snorkle and swim fins, though.
I put all my mom's orchid plants outside in the rain yesterday because we were going to get 2-3 inches of rain, and a couple more overnight. I just read the local gauge and we've gotten more than 8 inches. One point in Melbourne in Brevard County has gotten nearly 15 inches. Yikes!

Up to 100x, he said?
I'll take the over.
Random commentary, LA times had this article this weekend, and it felt to me like some kind of strange navel gazing article focused entirely on the author and not on the topic. Is this the style 20-year olds write nowadays? (almost no info or perception of the actual topic, almost all "my feelings/emotions" without context)
