I don't think AI is the problem. The problem began before that with Spotify. (Rick Beato would say: With Napster. Some call it: The Napster Moment.)
In 2015, I was part of a band that could reach break-even with a CD album production. By selling CDs mostly on gigs. We were not famous
This is impossible today.
The audience, however, likely does spend that money. But just not on CDs or downloads or concert tickets. Subscriptions to NetFflix, Spotify, perhaps even ChatGPT or Claude AI, perhaps Adobe, expensive mobile phone service contracts with unlimited data, all of these were not relevant in 2015. Neither was buying a ridiculously expensive new iPhone every 2 years.
AI in music only takes away money for what some people call muzak… like background music to corporate image video that back in the day somebody needed to write and to record.
If people listen to AI slop music on Spotify instead of real music, most musicians get the same zero € for their music from Spotify as they did before AI.
