The way computer security works in 2026:
queers go to congress and demonstrate multiple serious exploits against actual security software. the maintainers deny there’s a problem. nobody pays attention except other queers at congress
OpenAI finds a bug which could, hypothetically, in a very difficult-to-orchestrate attack and in the absence of already-existing mitigations, have a security implication. the entire industry has an overnight meltdown. coverage on national news stations worldwide. meanwhile, nobody is provably able to actually make it work as an exploit

Neighbour said my garden wasn't mowed. I said 'Yeah but I get lots of butterflies and you don't'. He's now posting photos of lone butterflies in his garden. Evidently butterfly envy is a thing.

This meme is an interesting case of ambiguous honesty. Every sentence is individually true (I've researched it).
But some people feel it is dishonest because it implies a coherent story in which she saves Apollo 13 from the hospital while in labor, and that is most definitely not true -- she was no longer at NASA when that crisis happened.
So which do you think? Honest, but misread? Or dishonestly constructed?

My #TierHive #NetBSD server is performing well and also crazy cheap. http://tierhive.com. I wanted something for $2 to $3 per month and found a VPS for only $5 per year.
I know most people are aware on how Linux can save old hardware, but here's to the folks that like to complain that GNOME is "bloated" and "runs poorly":
Today I salvaged this old laptop from going to the junk, added an old 4GB DDR3 RAM stick I had, popped the GNOME OS Nightly USB I had just to know what the specs were on this thing, and well... the screen is dying a slow and painful death but damn, this runs really, really well for a 13 year old chip that was already close to e-waste by the time it was produced and a just as old and slow HDD.
I obviously won't keep using it as a desktop due to the screen, but I'm baffled at the optimization work that is going on these days that enables this to be actully smooth and usable on hardware this bad.

While this is important in *principle* no product manager is going to pay attention to 0.01% of the market
@dajb Not the point. If it is to be digital infrastructure for the entire EU population, the entire EU population must be able to access it equitably.
@mcc i mean it's your learning project. would a normal idris user do this? oh hell no. would i do this? oh hell yes.
@dysfun based on various conversations i've had over the last week and a half, i'm feeling pretty certain that you are what a "normal idris user" looks like and i am not. i am trying to write Idris as if it were OCaml with a do construct. It's going very badly. i suspect anyone who tries to write idris this way doesn't continue writing idris very long.

I couldn't agree more. DCU is just an alternate universe; we can enter at any location or time and tell THAT story. I dislike the idea that individual stories aren't meaningful unless they lead to something else. People not understanding this is strange to me, because Star Wars has essentially been doing this for 50 years across movies, shows, games and books, admittedly without the tonal variety. Now, this doesn't mean there isn't connectivity.

Oh shit, I think that’s why emails from my domain have been going to spam lately. I guess I fucked up my reputation with gmail. Currently registrations require approval, but they still send an email verification link. Maybe I’ll just close them. Thank you so much for pointing this out!

agora é que vamos ter a prova dos 9 de se a ANACOM trabalha para os consumidores ou para o cartel de operadores... a confirmar-se o regabofe, deveriam seguir queixas imediatas para a Comissão Europeia.
Well, thanks to @Tattooed_Mummy, today I learned that there is a full copy of 1978 porn film "Debbie Does Dallas" on Wikipedia.
@neil @Tattooed_Mummy I remember at work, in a meeting, someone talked about a scary person called Debbie. And said Debbie does what Debbie does.
All I could think about is "Dallas?"
I didn't say it.
Yes I have been using #Xfce for daily use #Linux laptops for more than 10 years now. But I came to know now with new release development and also porting to #wayland, #LLM use is heavily involved. I am a bit discouraged but I will wait since there is no ETA now on new release. I am considering migrating to probably #Cinnamon or #Mate if things go too far.
