I also doubt it was his intent, but “accidentally pro-eugenics” is still “pro-eugenics.”

It’s a funny movie that’s easy to draw comparisons to in terms of how brazenly stupid things have gotten, but it has always bothered me when people call it “prophetic,” as it implicitly accepts some deeply flawed aspects of its premise.

I’m a big fan of Mike Judge, normally, but the concept that stupid people are out-breeding intelligent people and that this will lead to a planet of idiots is literally Eugenics 101

Edit: you’ll notice (if you haven’t been failed by your education 😊) that I made no mention of shadowy cabals, but that doesn’t magically invalidate my point any more than the fact that movie’s writer made some good cartoons back in the day

This kind of stuff is the coolest thing about the fediverse and ActivityPub to me.

All the stuff you mentioned is possible in theory but the tools and infrastructure to do it haven’t been created.

Is a handmaids tale written by a misogynist?

@stux that's called "consulting".

I've been working on this project behind the scenes since, like, February, and I think I am finally ready to publish it.

TBF Brazil is only richer than Portugal in terms of GDP, because it has like 15 times the population. Portugal still has twice the GDP (PPP) per capita of Brazil. Of course, in terms of politically power, Brazil dwarfs Portugal, which is probably more important for this particular issue.

My point was more that I’m like 99.9999999% sure that wasn’t the intent. Not everything is a conspiracy.

It’s because Portugal treated their lands as extensions of Portugal rather than colonies. The royal family has even moved to Brasil at one point.

The amount of time spend on recovering basic auth credentials for clients is a lifetime!

It seems to me that the last several years have demonstrated the shortcomings of FOSS as a set of organizing principles for computing, so I've developed a set of principles meant, not as a replacement, but as a corrective, and written them out as a sort of manifesto. Feedback welcome. Much thanks to @zoy and @alderwick and @neauoire for theirs.

Again, I never mentioned any conspiracy. You’re reading things into my comment that aren’t there. His intent has no real bearing on the matter.
