If you work in the tech industry this whole thread is a spec for the product we should be working on instead of whatever bullshit we’re doing now. We are failing these people and eventually they will turn on us.

Now, was he actually in the Epstein files, or did he just desperately want to be? I remeber him asking for an invite to the “wildest parties,” but I don’t remember if anyone actually liked him enough to let him be there.
I'm a little worried they are learning security by obscurity works.
Or security by not really being connected to everything works, but that second lesson isn't as bad.
Anyway. I need to find my white hat.
@futurebird - To back you up and add encouragement, I always teach folks that:
- *Relying on* security by obscurity is bad, but...
- Obscuring things can increase the "attacker's budget" and therefore help to lower risk.
(It's a similar discussion to the difference between "cover" and "concealment" in the military now that I think of it. Anyhow.)
And your second point of not being connected to everything absolutely lowers the attack surface thus lowering risk as well.
You've lead them to wonderful opportunities to discuss nuance in security and it's further wonderful that you are having these discussions with the students in the CS group!
That's awesome and so needed right now! Thank you!

It’s frustrating how there’s no way to say “anything people need should be provided free or at-cost” without sounding like a loony radical, but it’s true.
If businesses could figure out how to make you pay for the air you breathe, it would come in a variety of qualities and flavours, and I would have been banned from r/air long ago.
The profit incentive can barely even be trusted with stuff we don’t need. Never let necessities turn a profit.
I just explained why everyone can’t have a free house though.

I was looking at the music sheet for Super Mario World's castle theme. For the first part I was like "Oh this seems pretty doable in fact" and then I realized that no, it is not
I personally does not use the debian package, I always use the zip from wordpress.org.
But yes, that one does also use its own ca-bundle - I dont know since when they started with this, but I dont like that "feature".
My view of wordpress has changed :(

No one is to blame for the Democrats failures except the Democratic establishment that betrayed their progressive wing by suppressing Sanders and pursuing faux bipartisanship at the expense of their principles. If the Democrats want those votes, they should take up some more progressive values. Some of my local Dems even traitorously supported age attestation.
With that said, I expect to vote Democratic. The establishment Dems in my area are getting eeked out more and more during primary season every year.

I mean, we have some in the past, in the Victorian era, the UK invented the idea of Council Houses, houses given to those who earn less than a certain amount of money per year, which you live in until you reach a threshold of earnings that you have to move out
They built over 2 million of them in 1880-1950
Yeah. This style of housing was very unpopular in Australia because it created ghettos of welfare dependent families.
Social security does most of the heavy lifting now.
Yes we have homeless people, but this is a complex problem requiring a lot more social services than simply “a house”.

So your solution to to keep everything the same? Nah, that’s how we got here in the first place.
"Local Wikipedia is Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you."
@jalefkowit hmm. good in theory, spotty in practice. most of my entries are railway junctions. "did you know there's a church one block down from you?" yes, actually, i can see it from my house.
this is kind of the opposite of what i want the internet for. tell me about things i _haven't_ seen, places i _don't_ go.
i can see this might be different if you lived in the middle of bustling metropolis. "ooh, i never knew there was a museum there!"
Is this not awesome news? 😀 I wish @NGI_Taler a lot of success and cannot wait to pay with it.
