Check it out! Tonight there is an extremely rare "Stolen Moon".
I wanna talk about the political movement of the Open Source community. If you spend enough time on fedi, you surely will have heard *plenty* of criticisms of what's going on in Open Source, and rightfully so.
So I'm curious, what do we think the Open Source community *should be doing* in order to achieve important progressive and anti-authoritarian goals? What should the next generation of programmers be thinking of and working on in this space?
A special rule: You're only allowed to say "don't X" if you have at least as many "do Y" recommendations. Preferably, I'd like to see more do's than don't's.
Boosts welcome
@ai6yr there's a senior prof at work cranking out several books a year that are all produced with a heavy AI hand. Somehow that's seen as useful in annual reviews.
@sleepytako Came through Osaka like a freight train.
@tsturm @sleepytako complete slept through it in Kyoto😆
The stock market is a sign of a healthy economy. It only loses value when we make bad decisions, such as telling corporations that they might need to start obeying the law and be less corrupt.
Riiiiiiiiight .. Good luck with that.

Coffee plant update. I bought this guy back in 3 months ago from a grower in Santa Barbara. First photo back then. 2nd today. He’s doing well. #plants #bloomscrolling #gardening
@robertcadena WOW, that plant looks like it's doing phenomenally well! Which grower.. .mail order?

oh, gotcha, carry on then!
i'm entirely unfamiliar with msbuild, but from here* (admittedly not much effort, sorry if you've already been over this), i would suspect msbuild of opportunistically attempting to parallelize the build; was the build order A,D,B,C reproducible?
the docs have the worst statement i've ever seen for a build system, but it's SO microslop: "In general, you shouldn't depend on the declaration order to specify what tasks run before other tasks." ............. fuck you saying? you can't declare ordering?
@Kishi The docs are very bad. The only positive thing I can say about them is they exist, which is not true of all build systems I have encountered.

@carnage4life The new congress class photo is gonna look so good over this toot.
@Beachbum Schumer actively opposed the very people who won across the nation. To credit him with this win is just plain wrong.
@mastodonmigration He did not support, I would not say he opposed. Once they won their primaries, he was 100% behind them. There are a few I would have opposed also because they’re extreme and cannot achieve their extreme agenda. It’s a pipe dream. I appreciate how all the young people and non-voters who voted this time feel like they should be in control, but that’s not how it works. Schumer is more likely to sway 3-4 GOP senators to go along with them than anyone else could.
Papyrix includes a support library (integrated into its fancier text layout) for auto-hyphenating words, finding all the place might be hyphenated. So how does it work?
There's a public API which reformats the results from its auto-hyphenation & exposing the language-setter.
That setter invokes which helper which strips the region off the language-code & converts ISO639-2 into into ISO639-1 codes via lookuptable, to get the appropriate hyphenation data via another lookuptable.
1/?
Meanwhile to compute break offsets Papyrix validates it has a word to process, reformats the text (via a helper in another file) into UTF-32 annotated with UTF-8 offsets, parses off surrounding punctuation & footnotes, locates various forms of hyphens & contiguous latin characters into the tentative results, if data's available iterates over the codepoints sorting & deduplicating results, otherwise defers to a method on the hyphenator or breaks on all chars in centre of the word.
2/?
In the happy path for each char it checks whether we're at the end of the word or at an explicit hyphen & if either of those are the case it hands that segment of text off to the language-specific hyphenator reformatting results.
There's a sourcecode file aiding detecting/processing different charsets, some of which I've mentioned. And I've already discussed the language registry.
Through a layer of indirection Papyrix uses Liang's algorithm, which looks a bit involved so... Tomorrow!
