@artcollisions As of this week, yes! I think this particular object would have taken me several days to design independently. It was much quicker with Claude. (Like I said, my previous efforts here were much less successful.)
@harris Adrian is reporting similar successes with BOSL (a library for 3d printing that he's been working on for a few years now). He recently did something with gears and Claude was able to improve the code in ways that were inaccessible to Adrian.

Fediverse
Yup. Anyone expecting privacy on a federated service has been inherently misinformed about how federation works. Everything I do here is assumed to be public.
And I also assume that state agencies are running their own instances, to suck up as much data as they can. They can just federate with the big instances, and then the data gets firehosed directly to them via the built-in federation. It’s why AI scrapers on the fediverse are so frustrating. The scraper could just spin up an instance and passively collect all of the same data via federation. But instead, they just DDOS the instance owners.
Also, the users who bitch and moan about downvotes (because they can see who downvoted them) are pure comedic gold. I have seen users try to call out the specific people who downvoted them. Like they’ll edit their comment with something like “hey @{user1}, @{user2}, @{user3}, care to explain why you downvoted?” The only thing that ever accomplishes is getting them buried in even more spite-downvotes.
@darth_hideout
Not that it helps, but I didn’t see it for seven hours after Nimmy got it.
I’m way behind on the timeline, as usual these days 😕
Interesting that the server takes a video, converts it to a gif but then arbitrarily trims it though. Something to remember if I ever start uploading videos myself

Some more info. Feel free to mute the convo. This is probably most interesting to @deusfigendi.
I see something in the API response for that post.

The duration field is weird. It's the right length, but why PT? Why capital S? Why an S at all or a string & not a double?
Here's the API doc link: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/methods/media/#get
I see nothing at all about a duration parameter. Is this maybe an error somewhere along the way? Is this forcing it to clip down to that duration?
@ai6yr I had a problem with wool moths. It was a terrible pain, but I got it dealt with. I have some wool blend socks, supposedly toxic to the moths, but one poor little determined caterpillar ate some fibers of these socks. Once worn, they developed similar runs.
Anything that weakens a yarn to breakage can probably do this. Smart wool is worse because it is processed to remove the "scales" so it cannot felt at all. Felting on a small scale makes woolens more durable.
@deepmud Interesting. The recent Smartwool have been extremely prone to damage, I wonder if they are now way too processed? (ie very soft but therefore, also more fragile)
Just came across this, a place where people get can and give a warm coat to others for free♥️
@stux Wir bräuchten viel mehr solcher guter Aktionen.

not. at all. i consider anything i put here akin to standing on my nearest street corner during rush hour, shouting into the darkness
confused how anyone could think anything otherwise.
@neil Peanut butter?
I had a mouse in our loft a while back, so trapped it and released it in a field about 1/4 mile away. A couple of nights later, more scratching, and I do the same again. Then again.
I think it was on the fourth time, my OH said we should take it further away this time. So we drove a couple of miles into the countryside and released it there. Never heard from it (or any others) again.
Could it really have been the same mouse returning?
@GlasWolf I understand that they can return from quite some distance!
🍂 Stray Kitten Report 9 (2/2)
Also, big news: we always thought the black cat who came with the kitten was the mother, until I finally could pet her, she raised her tail and... obviously a male.
Once Blacky (named for his coat, obviously) trusted me, the real mother, Grisouille ("little greyish one" in Fr) came out of the forest and joined. She had been hiding. Both are now very friendly.
I've contacted the vet, and we'll soon sterilize them all. A bit pricey, but we saved since Sept for that.
Bless you man for helping them out…
Part of the Blue tsunami is the high engagement of these voters who are now going to be digging into the real politics of their liberal Blue electeds. Voters are motivated now.
This is where the '....No matter who' is bullshit.
The glow is wearing off and the people expect shit to get done and their rep to deliver on those promises.
I hope they make their electeds STRESSED.
BOOT to NECK, y'all.
Make those Libs break a sweat.
Make em sweat over their AIPAC//United Front for Democracy money.
Make em sweat over data center capitulation.
Make em sweat for sucking Corporate JeffriesSchumer 🍆.
Make em sweat for mealy-mouthed incrementalism.
Make them sick of you.
Everyone can catch these electoral hands.
@DeliaChristina make them sweat on holding trump and everyone else accountable too
@bakachu Ha, good point. Anyway, I have seen a few marriages dissolve when people's interests change. (also lots dissolve over changing health conditions, yikes.... i.e. people who were married probably over physical attractiveness and someone got cancer or another life changing disease, and the other half dumped them so fast....)
In case you missed, Gaël Duval from /e/OS and Murena is an ableist AI bro who calls anti-AI "low IQ" and whines when he is called a fash. If you want a better mobile ecosystem, /e/OS and Murena aren't what you are looking for.
Clearly I need to get better at catching slop tells in writing
also
gods I'm offended at anyone using slop machinery to generate prose for others. like. how can you have that much contempt for your audience?
@aurynn one of the (very few) benefits of hitting hacker news front page was receiving feedback that even my completely broken grammar and writing was better to read than slop. If even hackernews prefers no LLMs in articles then why the heck is anyone using them.
> Also I only realized after finishing the article what a breath of fresh air it was to read something that came straight from another human's brain without LLM intermediation. Thank you to the author for that too.
Dunno how this even happens. #socks

CMake question.
For years, I've been adding this line to my cmake configuration invokes on Windows.
-A x64
I do this because I believe this is the only way to communicate to Windows CMake I want to build an x86-64 executable and NOT x86-32.
My wife tried to use one of my invocations on her machine. It angrily refused to run, saying I requested "platform specification" and "ninja" does not support "platform specification".
Is there a correct cross-generator way to say "64 BIT" on Windows?
@mcc no, ninja will just detect what compiler toolchain you have. Cmake profiles have at least a way to communicate to the invoking tool what it wants but it’s cursed (the “strategy” part of the toolchain “architecture” key
