The trillion dollar monsters are all focusing on *finding* issues at high speed in large volumes. Hardly any of them care about *fixing* these problems with any sense of quality.

It is a real shame that people think that this is vibecoded
we can’t see your source code but the copy on your transparency page sounds like LLM voice:
- “Your feed is people and communities, not advertising.”
- “This is a promise we keep in good faith, not a technical guarantee.”
- “Analytics let people see how their posts, profiles and communities are doing. This is everything they record, and nothing else.”
- “Eight promises:” […]
If you say you wrote some of the code by hand, cool, i don’t doubt it. But it’s still giving slop.
Also, charging money for a “plus” account on a centralized closed-source activitypub implementation is…

Lastly, it’s difficult to reconcile these two statements:
as a software engineer with over 15 years of experience
[…]
the core is closed for anti-abuse reasons

Tal como se discutem protestos em vez de se discutir habitação, discutem-se mercados em vez de se discutirem políticas de ocupação e vivência do espaço público. Em Portugal, quando se aponta alguma coisa, estamos condenados a olhar para o dedo.

Still thinking about how tabs and bookmarks are basically the same thing, and how lots of other features are also the same thing

Hi, I got a couple questions that aren’t answered on your transparency page yet.
- Has AI been used to create this?
- Two AI communities are on top of your communities list. Your terms talk about preventing AI scraping, yet your platform seems to welcome “AI founders”. How does this go together?
- Where is the source code?
- Your terms talk about monetization through Normals Plus. Can you elaborate on this?
Just sent 3 PRs to Mastodon core 👀
Exciting times.
The real story of gen AI is the story of widespread, uncoordinated, unreported resistance.
When you see a CEO firing people who don’t use enough AI, the real story is that many of their employees refuse to do so unless their livelihood is held hostage.
When you see AI added to an application, present on every page, impossible to remove, the real story is that customers won’t use it unless it’s forced down their throats.
AI rejection is everywhere if you read between the lines.

Please no. Fediverse, open standards, open source, free software, no bullshit.
‘Today, after 31 years, we are saddened to announce that Salon is ceasing publication.’
Why do young people love going out so frickin' much? We get it. You love being out. You still believe the world is an inherently good place full of possibilities. You've not yet completed The Trials or know The Terrible Truth. Only indoors is safe. Inside with the doors locked and the curtains closed. At home where the TV and the biscuits live. There are no surprises at home. You cannot bump into people. No loud and terrifying public transport. Just soft carpet and your best friend - old Fridgey.
@TheBreadmonkey What happened to I Am Now Good Morning Man?
yay, got punch and got punched! :3
They are cracking down at work and everyone needs to wear their ID badge. The reasons are sensible enough, there have been bomb threats at schools around NYC so all of the schools are trying to be more secure.
But, I think like most people I *detest* lanyards.
I've settled on a belt clip but thought I'd ask others who suffer under the ID badge wear it. Do you have a method you like?
i knot my lanyard up so it wears more like a necklace. causes it to bounce/sway less when im walking

If your “anti-abuse” security requires your software to be closed source, then your software is not secure. Well built software can be open source, and still secure.
You imply that your code could not prevent abuse if it was known, so, no offense, but that code must be pretty bad!
I like the fediverse because it distributes power. I, as a user, have the power to choose my instance, choose my moderation, choose the structure that my social interactions are built upon (threads based, microblogs, etc) and if I dont like something, I have the power to change it. Thats why open source is such a perfect fit to that model. Closed source federation then, sounds to me like you didnt get it.

Les moutons du coin quand je vais au travail
I swear these days I try like mad to avoid post Dem win election coverage bc these days a raft of progressives win... and the DNC will just trout out the fucking Hillary era Dems to claim the wins as a mandate for the most centrist voices in the party.
@nullagent They always do that. The role of centrist "leftists" is to prevent a mass movement. The Clintons are good at it, which is why they have been rewarded with wealth. See also Tony Blair in the UK and Felipe Gonzalez in Spain
