Nothing stops those being adjustable tunables.
Yes. They could just not set them at all in the published source, and just set them in their deployment. They are at least dishonest about the reasons for keeping the source closed, which is sad.
It amazes me to see grown adults devote so much time, effort, and cortisol just to save a couple of bucks on a fucking bag of candy.

Matrix already has federation
do they aim for voice and videochat?

Fluxer has federation on their roadmap;, I’ll be waiting for their implementation.

Closed source and clearly completely vibe coded? Just look at the site, it reeks of AI. Even this post has so much AI-speech.
Yea, no thanks.
If I'm mathing correctly, next May is the 19th birthday of the fediverse, see;
https://fediverse.party/en/post/fediverse-12-years-in-2020/
So I aim to have all the info on fediverse.party shipshape and Bristol fashion in time for a modest relaunch of the site on that date.
Then next November, fediverse.party turns 10! See;
https://fediverse.party/en/post/fediverse-party-turns-five/
So I'll be aiming to complete a major technical rebuild in time to celebrate that in style. We recently started plotting that here;

@strypey a sentence above the list saying what it’s a list of would good, ie basically that each link gives details of the software (oh no! You have invoked Content Editor Mode! I hate that mode, it’s so up itself! 😞 😉 )
Why the fuck were the fridges at blood banks connected the internet?
What bumbling fool would do such a thing?

I love that a lot of folks are suddenly watching or rewatching Andor after the US midterms. It's a really fucking good show about resistance against fascism, the lengths tyrants will go to maintain control, power, and fear, and about finding and creating hope during oppression. Season 2, released last year, also has a plot line that is an allegory for the genocide in Palestine and governments' refusals to acknowledge it as such, that actually uses the word genocide in a very powerful moment. It is part of the Star Wars universe, but you do not require any prior Star Wars knowledge to really understand it. I very highly recommend it, as well as the movie that it serves as a prequel to, Rogue One (the best Star Wars movie, and anyone who says otherwise is wrong).
When I was 7, I was told it would be hard to go metric because of the old people. I have been metric all my life, and if the old people of back then were only the age I am now, they'd be 107.
Go #metric now. There's no excuse.

It is so deeply weird to me that shops have Christmas trees in their windows. I used to love Christmas as a kid, but now it just instils a deep sense of gnawing constant fear in me. Every year since around 2015 has been filled with uncertainty. Rolling horrors and financial instability leave me with internal icy cold dread. Will I be able to afford Christmas? Do we reallocate money to Christmas at the risk of other bills? Because that's what it feels like now. Just another bill. A tax. Except for this one you have to pretend to be constantly cheerful for an ever-extending period. Now Christmas cheer apparently chimes as the clocks change. Your two options are either 'way too hot' and permaChrimbo. I can't breathe. Just give me some room to be, without having to constantly be in fight or flight. Anyway, morning! Hooray! Another day. What day? Literally no one knows. I think it might be Thursday? It all blends at this point. Anyway let's all get out there and be our best selves and have a terrific whatever day it is. Day! Day! Day!
@TheBreadmonkey They do it earlier every year as well. Shops here had Christmas stuff out in August. August! I bet they just won't bother taking it all down next year.

It's a shame you see it this way, Andy Piper disagrees but you're free to think as you wish, it's an open forum :)

Considering the move to Lemmy or hosting with a custom architecture
So far, I like what’s been built here. There are a few things I’d change, but they’re not dealbreakers. My main concern is the voting system and how it works. Otherwise, Lemmy seems like a solid option. I’m not sure how much voting can be disabled or changed on an instance.
I’m considering either hosting a Lemmy instance for nightash.net, where I currently run a traditional forum, or building something closer to the architecture I described here .
I’d appreciate feedback, especially from people who might be interested in using it.
