My eighteen-year-old also got to the polls this afternoon. I wasn’t with him as I had to fix dinner, but he said he got his first-time-voter cheer from the staff. Do they do that everywhere or is it an Indiana thing? I like it.
a useful skill to practice:
look at what a company or person does, and at what they say their intentions are. then ask yourself "if those were truly their intentions, what would the perfect solution look like"?
then compare that perfect solution to what they actually did, and take note of the difference. ask yourself what they stand to gain from that difference, if anything.
this is a method that lets you poke through a lot of propaganda and outright lies, it lets you identify the bits that someone *isn't* saying out loud, the ones that are normally easy to overlook. it works because their framing has much less effect on your reasoning this way.
I call this 'reverse analysis' because it's the reverse of what people normally ask themselves ("does their behaviour look about right for their claimed intentions?"), you start at what it *should* be instead of what it is, but I'm open to a better name

that was it. that was all he had. the man is spent. he put up a hell of a showing. now we wait to see who won: him or the reflecting pool he was apparently campaigning for or against or something.
@djsundog The "relfecting pool" had more life-like expressions when it was full of algae.
@amcooper it's really a shame. I'm glad my kids still had decent music and arts classes in their public schools in Quebec.
@dillyd Yeah I imagine USA is an outlier among rich countries in this area. I think those cuts started with Reagan. They helped make our society unpalatable to Spouse & me.
Lots of people telling me to vote today, but, like 96% of the world's population, I don't live in the US. So here's an inclusive poll that *everyone* can vote in.
Anyone have a contact at Podigee they can pass to me?
@dave Have sent you the co-founder's email, to your dave@ email address

this is like an example you would give to a small child to explain why monopolies are bad
@sil Well - I hope some of the schools choose that. Google's search has declined in quality anyway. Duck Duck Go is pretty good.
Nobody talk to me my boyfriend is on TV
@sarahstreza 💯%!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Okay, what idiot uses their WORK COMPUTER to do a job interview?! Wait, was this guy WORKING FOR A CRYPTO EXCHANGE?!?!
BleepingComputer: Binance says fake job interview led to $6.3 billion crypto heist
"...Cryptocurrency exchange Binance says North Korean hackers used a fake job interview to trick an employee into installing malware that ultimately let them compromise the company's wallet infrastructure and steal about $6.34 billion in digital assets..."
@ai6yr I work for an actual legit financial institution and I don’t have the privs to install software on my computer. But also things like wire transfers are reversible. Just saying.
Hmmm could have a Buffalo Bob moment here.
It puts the ballot in the box or it gets the trump again.

Uppercase - A Daily Word Puzzle
@gardiner_bryant I enjoyed today’s topical one 😊
Just saw the phrase "hand coded by an AI agent" on what was presented as a creative work.
Pixelfed’s latest update: welcome progress, but some issues remain.
A cleaner interface, improved speed, quicker likes and finally visible bookmarks are great improvements. Thanks to the developers! Still, a few things deserve attention:
- Editing posts: The Edit option seems to have vanished from the iOS app. Correcting a caption or maintaining a numbered photo series shouldn't require starting over.
2. Profile views: Why are we now limited to a grid, even on profiles? Browsing someone's work means opening a photo, going back to the grid, opening the next, and repeating. It's tedious and interrupts the viewing experience. There shoud ideally be three options: grid, continuous scrolling feed and masonry (staggered images retaining their proportions). This would also make public profiles far more enjoyable for visitors without Pixelfed accounts.
3. Federation: My photos are often boosted by Mastodon users, yet I can't properly see who shared them or explore their profiles. Some Mastodon accounts show only a fraction of their posts in Pixelfed. Relevant reading:
https://ploum.net/2025-12-04-pixelfed-against-fediverse.html
4. Reliability: Feeds, notifications or profiles sometimes appear completely empty despite existing content. Refreshing doesn't always fix it.
5. Multi-image posts: Currently, multiple photos can only be viewed as a carousel, requiring users to swipe through them individually. An alternative layout, like Tumblr's vertically flowing or masonry-style arrangements, would allow images of different sizes and orientations to complement each other and give photographic series a more cohesive presentation.
I appreciate Pixelfed as an independent, open-source photography platform, and this update is a step forward. These are constructive suggestions to make it even better. What are your experiences? Feel free to comment and share this post.

This will all be fixed in the next app release!
Yay, we voted!
@grammasaurus @petabites @mlanger @LJ I've concluded the vast majority of people doing sewing in this town are quilters.
@ai6yr @grammasaurus @petabites @LJ Yeah, quilting is definitely a thing. But I personally believe that it's a boring thing. 🤣There are only so many quilted blankets you can make and give away.
It's a bit belated to say this by now, but the time to look at electoral news is Wednesday, not Tuesday evening (or daytime). Everything reported today is either preliminary, or so clear as to not be in doubt, and everything good or bad will be there tomorrow (and not legally take effect for at least a month). Don't stress yourself out watching numbers twitch on an imaginary dial.
