Highly recommend #AdventureX and/or #Narrascope to anyone interested in narrative games who can get to America or the UK in June/December respectively. (Narrascope location should solidify soon, egads.)
@Moosader I was talking more about specifically the baseball angle, yes i agree examples work better with an actual use.
The baseball angle is kinda interesting though from the POV of not knowing baseball (so honestly it would work better with a fake sport) because that does kinda reflect how such goes in the real world of software engineering, your first step is to define the problem and the rules governing your desired outcome.
@raptor85 Yeah but even with something that's a bit more businessey, at least it FEELS more worthwhile to learn about some domain. Most people probably aren't going to be coding baseball related things, but if I can explain, for example, document management systems or ediscovery software for lawyers, at least that feels more useful. CoMaps
Import your Google Maps reviews to Mangrove
Did you review places via Google Maps in the past? @mangroveReviews@mas.to now offers a way to import your past reviews, which means they will also appear in CoMaps in future maps!
@eth0 Flags!
@ericphelps @acf @pkal @sstephenson What a terrible take! Yes, if you find out that one of your contributors has a history of misconduct, you can and should reject their future contributions. If their patch disclaims it was made with slave labour, you are fully capable of rejecting it on those grounds! Just because you can't know everything about everyone in advance doesn't mean that nothing should be done! It's perfectly reasonable and possible to just react according to a set of principles!
Very exciting weekend, but my energy is *crashing*. Currently at detective game panel, which is very good and I want to rewatch, but brain is in "fire bad, tree pretty" mode.
@gabboman@gabboman.xyz wait aren't you supposed to POST new entities?

@artemist "Lü Bu… the Large Adult Son of the Chinese classics"
Actually wait I haven't read enough of the Chinese classics to know if there is an even larger adult son somewhere

Fediverse
Is there a way to not see duplicate of the same topic across different communities?
Hi everyone!
I’m really enjoying the Fediverse through Lemmy and Peertube.
Two creators I enjoy and follow on the Fediverse are Dash and Gardiner Bryant (both work on The Bryant Review) as their content is really enjoyable.
Sadly they are the target of my post as they shares their content on many different communities that I follow.
Today I had 5 times the same topic on RetroDeck (great project too) on my feed on Lemmy (Voyager).
It is the same on PieFed (Interstellar).
This is really annoying and I haven’t found a way to not show these duplicates. Do you know about one or is it worked on?
Also when crossposting, it would be great if everything appeared under on post. Is it feasible?
Sorry if it’s easy and I just missed it. In a way I hope it is because it would mean that the Fediverse is festure rich😇
Edit: Added Dash as she was in fact the one who published the article. Also it appears that the issue is only on mobile apps since both the browser of Lemmy and PieFed don’t have it.
Edit 2: Using the Progressive Web App of PieFed seems to have solved the issue for me
Time to catch Mr Altman...
"Software should be free. The people... not so much"
@Gargron GNU officially retconning the RMS quote to "it's not free as in beer, it's free as in free labor"
i'm not looking forward to getting dragged to the hague for having emacs installed on my machine
okay, a little vulnerable bunposting. x_x
over the years, a lot of my friends and family have moved out to the suburbs, or away from Seattle entirely, and i've found myself spending more time alone than i'd really like.
i've spent a lot of my life building things, and lately i've realized i'd really like to spend more of it building connections with people.
i think my internet presence probably makes me seem a bit intimidating, but underneath all the strong opinions about computers, i'm actually a pretty soft, affectionate, playful, and occasionally ridiculous bun. :3
i'd really love to meet more trans and therian folks here in the PNW. friendships, dates, cuddles, adventures, whatever develops naturally. i'm not looking for anything in particular, just genuine connections with people i enjoy being around.
if you've ever wanted to get to know me better, please don't be shy. you don't have to impress me. i'd genuinely love to hear from you...
@mcc he's just a small boy with horse autism, don't look down on him too much

Calling all Worlds of ZZT Patrons, it's time to vote for which ZZT games will be the subject of an upcoming Closer Look article! https://museumofzzt.com/poll/
Hearing more and more stories of "nobody knows how to work on our codebase anymore after 1.5 years of agents, and management is asking for us to get more involved in the code after initially telling us to go agent native due to quality issues, but nobody really knows how to anymore"
Responses:
- Shock!
- Surprise!
- Wasn't this the goal?
@raptor85 think of it as a difference between
void Foo( int& bar )
{
bar = 5;
}
(what the fuck does this even mean and why would we do this?)
vs.
void Quadratic( float& x1, float& x2, float a, float b, float c )
{
x1 = ( -b + sqrt( b*b - 4*a*c ) ) / 2*a;
x2 = ( -b - sqrt( b*b - 4*a*c ) ) / 2*a;
}
