They’re Tankies.
You probably want to avoid their instances like lemmy.ml or lemmygrad.ml unless you like to root for the tanks in the Tianamen square massacre.

Aucune raison d'avoir sécurisé quoi que ce soit depuis.

If free software is not about ethics, then what the fuck is its point.
@Gargron Yes, FOSS should include ethics.
But. For individuals, there's a problem. We are all embedded in societies. We don't live without them. If the societies have unethical structural components, individuals can do what they can but on a day-to-day level it's never much. It's like telling people to boycott the transit system because it uses fossil fuels and make their own. You can't. So do you never go anywhere? That doesn't change the system either.
The question about slavery is not hypothetical. It's embedded all over the place. There was a web site maybe 15 years ago that would estimate for you how many enslaved people globally were supporting your life.
So we've all answered the GNU maintainer's question and answered it the same way. Yes, we go on making contributions and accepting them. Mainly by being unaware of the slavery.
But the fact remains that we can either do nothing because our societies have grossly criminal components, or we can do what's possible for us in the moment and maybe all the invisible molecules of change eventually make a less criminal system.
Obviously, it would be better if we did that without lying to ourselves.
every time I think back on explaining very basic things like "slavery is bad" and "keeping violent people around is bad" to Very Smart Computer Touchers I get the urge to run into the forest

can we shout out to the fediverse developers, for making the fediverse possible
shout out to the lemmy developers for not making us be stuck on the other site
shout out to mastodon devs for making us have a better life than on Twitter
shout out to the pixelfed devs for allowing a actual photography platform to exist
shout out to the peertube devs for helping us not be stuck on youtube until the end of time
ETA: Shout out to the server operators who make the stuff be done

@timbray -- nice! added it to my blogroll...

Am i allowed to say "I old you so" now? Because I told you so.
@baldur Understanding can and should be a deliverable.
Damn it, now I'm going to talk about the TAMI show
The TAMI Show was a concert film released in 1964, it's one of a couple of films that meet the criteria I'm about to discuss, but it is the one who's name I remember, so it's the one we're going to talk about.
You can watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnFbkV17O08
or read about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T.A.M.I._Show
But, in both cases, you will probably not notice the thing that is important to this discussion, so bare with me.
YouTube
@neauoire I got to play a pre release version of Sewer Shark as a kid as part of a marketing study or something… I told them it sucked

i feel like lemmy has broken the promise of the fediverse
cross-posted from: feddit.org/post/37748055
… where every platform communicates with every other platform. i’ve rarely ever seen a post from mastodon on here, and even if it’s technically possible, it doesn’t seem that it happens very often.
likewise, i’ve rarely if ever seen a post from lemmy on mastodon. these two platforms just don’t seem to interact much.
the fediverse is already very small. fragmenting it even further by having multiple services that basically don’t talk to each other is not good. we need to either (a) aggressively find a way to bridge certain lemmy communities to be more visible on mastodon, especially location-based communities, or (b) i think that i’ll have to decide to only use mastodon in the future, because that’s where all my irl-friends are (yes i have those too, i do not only exist in a terminally online state 😊 and because mastodon is bigger already and that’s why i think that it has a bigger chance of taking off.
so, what do i suggest should happen?
especially for location-based communities (australia, london, darmstadt, …) it should be more probable for people living in these locations to draw use out of the lemmy community. maybe it’s just a question of showing lemmy content from these communities on mastodon home pages, or auto-subscribing mastodon users to nearby lemmy communities. something like that.
A few weeks ago I said on @davisjason.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy’s show that I think having marching bands at American soccer games would be fun.
Here’s some evidence:
@jtannenwald.bsky.social @davisjason.bsky.social
Doesn't Reign have a marching band?
Couldn’t prevent myself from implementing support for socialspec.org as a plugin in GoBlog, given it already supports most of the pieces like automatic blogroll and feeds, and I must have just had to add redirects and some CORS handling. As I’m not an iOS user and can’t use the HyperTexting app, I don’t really have any use out of it, but initiatives supporting the open web are nice anyway. You can see my profile at sodir.org.
This is hilarious.
@stefano I plan on making a PR for BSD on Monday.
Merci Thomas Vdb !
