"software freedom" was invented to address social issues.
I guess you could say "it is just a tool".

Crash's Course Ep 03: Virtual Tabletop Advice #ttrpg #vtt
The fediverse is a warm and welcoming social network for everyone, regardless of gender, culture, or skin color. It's a healthy alternative to Big Tech surveillance platforms, and everyone should come as they are - except if you:
- Talk positively about AI
- Admire someone who uses AI
- Use AI
- Lean more to the right politically than to the left
- Are a "tech bro", as defined by me
- Code any kind of feature not democratically decided by each individual user
- Use Linux while appreciating Linus Torvalds
- Forget alt text
- Still use Meta apps or talk about them
In that case, fuck you, you're not welcome here!

@rolle
You used to be able to find refugee on the web if you were struggling, but then we made the grave mistake of connecting everyone with everyone else and destroying safe communities.
Especially during last few years it has become a constant witch hunt which is tiring and distressing even if you are not targeted yourself.
@rek I only saw the trailer so far and didn't even realize it wasn't computer animated. Wow!
@i_dabble even when watching it in theaters i had trouble believing it was stop-motion, the animation is so, so smooth.

What’s the worst that could happen?
Some data brokers looking through your preferences and building a profile out of you, I guess.

I mean I live in a country whose political environment was irrevocably changed because of Cambridge Analytica. And facebook’s algorithm is partly being blamed for the Rohingya genocide in Myanmar. It’s not really about you that I’m worried with, but for others in general.

Aaron would be 40 today.
I hope within the next decade we'll collectively effect more change that he'd have loved to see.

Did you review places via Google Maps in the past? @mangroveReviews@mas.to now offers a way to import your past reviews, which means they will also appear in CoMaps in future maps!
We've released a new version (v4.1.0) of our PHP SDK for accessing our geocoding API
https://packagist.org/packages/opencage/geocode
lots of minor updates, but the main thing is requires PHP 8.3 or newer.
The library now comes with Laravel fascade to make installing and using
the library inside the popular web framework easier. Readme
and web documentation give an example.
As always, our PHP tutorial is here:
https://opencagedata.com/tutorials/geocode-in-php
Enjoy!

can we shout out to the fediverse developers, for making the fediverse possible
shout out to the lemmy developers for not making us be stuck on the other site
shout out to mastodon devs for making us have a better life than on Twitter
shout out to the pixelfed devs for allowing a actual photography platform to exist
shout out to the peertube devs for helping us not be stuck on youtube until the end of time
ETA: Shout out to the server operators who make the stuff be done
gotta coin the term #merchenary:
a #business posing as a #vendor/#manufacturer who really just sells branded #whitelabel stuff
just as shady as #dropshipping
For a while, I was under the impression that all spiciness, or burning sensation in food flavoring, would come from capsaicin, the compound that causes it in chili peppers. Then I realized that Sichuan peppers are a quite different kind of heat. Wasabi (horseradish) is different yet again.
How many hot-flavored compounds are there? At least five!
Kalsec: "The Elements of Heat"
@clacke All of these subjectively feel and taste very differently, so it makes sense they are different compounds. It’s nice to know exactly what chemical causes those sensations!

I didn’t know that administrators or moderators could see the votes. So they can’t be considered completely private.

AI is a technofascist project built on pillaging the commons to facilitate a wealth transfer to the ultra wealthy. it is not "just a tool" unless you're somehow immune to moral injury and prepared to completely disregard the political, ethical, and environmental aspects of the thing
