A recurring speech I’ve been giving to my team at work is that technical skill is no longer enough. Being able to write code, create PRDs or design in Figma is simply not enough.
What we most need now from people is good judgement. AI agents can do the technical things but they lack judgment.

Moderators can also see votes on posts in their communities. I assume instance admins can do the same for everything.

lemmy and mastodon are more than just activitypub frontends. mastodon is for microblogging where you follow users while lemmy and other threadiverse software is a discussion forum and news aggregator where you follow communities. it’s cool you can share some posts across these platforms but there is a reason you don’t see the same posts everywhere and that’s a good thing.
1970s UK TV is having a variety show called "that ol' rebel shambuckle" and it plays live cacophonous punk music that will blow your ears out
Raising money to put on an antiracist demo where people will get arrested so you have to put on a demo to raise awareness about police violence at demos and then fundraise to pay for legal costs of people who got beat up at demos where--
People. What the fuck are we doing? Literally what is the point of this at all??
Just fundraise and give the money to literally any random poor person. Ten times as effective.

Richard Lloyd, guitarist for influential New York band television, dies at 75.

'Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 25, 1951, Lloyd initially played drums before his growing fascination with the guitar led him to switch instruments.
“The guitar was a powerful motivator. I began trying to bend strings, and I wanted to go electric right away.'
Here's why garment factory workers in Bangladesh are striking:
Take a woman working a 12-hour shift in a textile factory in Bangladesh. During her shift she sews more than 150-200 t-shirts for Zara, Levis, Walmart and H&M. Her pay for the entire day? Less than $5.
H&M takes those shirts and sells them to European consumers for more than €20 each. That's over €4,000 in retail value. Generated by her hands. In a single day.
H&M runs massive ad campaigns in Europe talking about "conscious" fashion and "sustainability." But there's nothing sustainable about a system that uses their workers up like a cheap commodity.
This is why Bangladeshi workers are shutting down garment factories all over the country. They aren't just asking for a few extra cents. They are striking for the right to be treated like human beings.

Privileging the lie.
GOP bullshit gets the headline while any correction or rebuttal or truth is buried in the article.
@jamesbritt @Npars01 @CassandraVert
Absolutely. Again for those in the back...
"Privileging the lie."

@iris_meredith you seem really angry with me., which is strange because I don’t think we’ve ever interacted. Good luck to you.

So, you submit a feature request for an open-source project and offer to put together a pull request (which the maintainer even welcomed).
Then, you sit down, painstakingly build a fully-fledged new feature into the project, and submit a pull request—only for nothing to happen for four months.
In the meantime, several other people ask about the feature and even point toward your pull request, which is just waiting to be merged.
And what happens today?
A new release of the software comes out, and the feature is now included.
But my pull request is still open. I check the commit history and see that it was implemented five days ago—by Claude.
I take a look at it today, and, well... it’s a half-baked implementation that immediately causes other issues (my version was much more stable and didn’t have those negative side effects elsewhere).
I rarely contribute to open-source projects—mostly due to a lack of time—and things like this are just even more demotivating...
