not. at all. i consider anything i put here akin to standing on my nearest street corner during rush hour, shouting into the darkness
confused how anyone could think anything otherwise.
Where we goin' on vacation, babe? Somewhere tropical?"

From my local 350 group:
"There's a bill in the U.S. Senate scheduled for a vote on Monday —
the so-called Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act.
Don't let the name fool you.
This bill is stuffed with blatant environmental attacks. It would:
• Gut the Clean Water Act, making it harder to protect water and stop polluting projects.
• Weaken the Endangered Species Act, limiting its ability to protect imperiled species like North Atlantic right whales and monarch butterflies.
• Lock in decades of fossil fuel dependence instead of supporting clean energy.
• Fuel energy-hungry data centers by accelerating federal approval of new gas pipelines and infrastructure.
• Hand mining companies unprecedented rights to occupy and degrade public lands, while removing the people's right to oppose these projects."
The title seemed suspicious to me
@researchbuzz Wow. That is so beautiful!
@alisynthesis I was slackjawed! And the singing! OMG!
Ah, that sounds like a good option. Maybe I'll take a look at hosts like that too.
I have less than a week left on my annual sub, and I know there's no getting around paying for another month at this point, but at least I was able to swap the annual out for monthly for now.
@darkbeth Yes, it's a solid option. The main drawbacks: the spam filter is very primitive, and this options also feels to me a bit like a going back before 2010; when I used a mail client and not a webmail only.
But after a bit of tweaking, I found that installing a client (tested Geary), setting up IMAP is not that much a big chore and really usable.
OVH proposes their own webmail software, coming with the hosting plan, and it's not that bad too in case I need access on a public machine.

it's not a rober press (or robur press spelt correctly) it's a ... fuck I can't remember. Kind of a screw press but instead of pressing plates together it just presses a little circle or something small into or out of another thing. Plus probably other stuff, idk. dang
@moira in Spain we call it mechanical extractor but I can't find the proper term in English https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extractor#/media/Archivo:Poelietrekker.jpg

Oh dang, they put all the Wing Commander games on Steam.
I know there are games I played before Wing Commander, but it was the first one that I got obsessed with. And that was years before Mark Hamill got involved.
What feels really bizarre is there are a lot of games in this bundle I've never actually played. WC1 and 2 each had two expansion packs I never touched. There are two Privateer games, both the original and the FMV one with Clive Owen, John Hurt, Christopher Walken and Brian Blessed in it. The spinoffs Armada and Academy ... I'm not even sure what those are even like!
OUTSTANDING. If you have 6 minutes and 43 seconds (the animation itself is about half that) I can't recommend this enough. A masterpiece of stop motion made from ceramics.

Beneath a Russian woman's striking beauty lies a hidden secret that will unleash her indelible strength and skill and lead to her becoming one of the most feared assassins on the planet.
"Indelible strength" ??
@ColinTheMathmo
Indelicate (not very lady-like)?
Inedible? (don't eat and assassinate at the same time)
Incredible syzygy'd with ...I forgot what word I was going to say. Undeniable?
@ai6yr

direct to disk means:
after rehearsal:practice,
everyone tuned up? yeah? good?
they don't hit record, no edits, no overdubs,
the lathe spins, the artists perform, the mix is the mix.
end of one performance, the lathe engineer rolls the break, and the next performance is cut, etc, until the 15 or so minutes is up.
then take a break,
then cut the b-side lacquer.
same.
it's intense stuff.

From the DF Archive: Should a CEO Be a Nerd About Their Company’s Products?

@daringfireball You can’t say “decision-making by quantifiable numbers took over” after the Vision Pro shipped under Cook’s approval. That’s an absurd decision that’s left competitors as well as die-hards scratching their heads while they search for the logic behind that move, which is going to make Cook look quite visionary the longer time marches on. Big things have small beginnings!
