Fediverse
Fedigest, a hand-picked front page for Lemmy, PieFed and Mbin
Made a thing. Fedigest is a self-hosted site where you pick posts from anywhere in the threadiverse, write a few lines about why they’re worth reading, and publish them as one front page.
Comments are pulled live from the original thread. Want to vote or reply? Enter your home instance once, it gets saved in your browser, and from then on every post takes you straight to the same post on your own instance. It can also follow communities and add new posts automatically.
Comes with 15 themes (light/dark pairs follow your device, and there’s a terminal one with an old PC font), and you can make your own with a live preview.
Runs as one Docker container, SQLite inside. Still early, version 0.1.3. Built with help from an LLM.
Demo: https://demo.fedigest.org
Code: https://github.com/DaDosDude/Fedigest
Feedback welcome.
Hey, sisters, how can I install JavaScript engine in my body? 😂
I, uh, married the sentient IKEA KALLAX

Fediverse
Please no. Fediverse, open standards, open source, free software, no bullshit.
One of my least favorite features of Mastodon is how it makes typos appear in posts after they’re boosted. I don’t know why they built it that way. They should really fix that.
The article doesn’t really mention it, but I was intrigued to see that several of the media storage boxes in their photos were labeled “MAJESTIC.”
Majestic was an extremely short-lived (launched and canceled within a few months in 2001-2002) early online game from EA that remains among the weirdest gaming experiences I have ever had
“The most fascinating ephemeral game is Majestic, an experimental, X-Files-inspired alternate reality game about the chaos of the information age that ran for less than a year before its publisher pulled the plug. Majestic still stands as one of the most ambitious interactive entertainment projects ever undertaken. Intended as a personalized ongoing event for adult audiences that didn’t enjoy gaming’s typical epic-sized power fantasies, the game might have heralded a new direction for the entire medium had it succeeded. Instead, it imploded almost immediately.
“We can’t play Majestic now, so from a slew of articles and anecdotes, I’ve tried to assemble its history and offer a glimpse of what it was, why it failed, and what it could have been.”
I've seen a bunch of people describe Tuesday as the Bluesky election, which honestly... that tracks. A bunch of telling Musk to go fuck himself while also throwing trans kids under the bus.
@lawyersgunsnmoney @mattblaze If only he’d been more thoughtful when he was sentient.
@michaelslade @lawyersgunsnmoney I think he was an extremely thoughtful and talented politician. Just on the wrong side of damn near everything.
It's so disheartening to explain this over and over working in critical infrastructure cybersecurity full time. It's because everyone demands cheap, fast remote support and AI enabled real time telemetry and control. We’ve worked ourselves into this corner through demanding connectivity and I see next to nothing truly airgapped anymore. In fact, it’s impossible to convert some critical systems back at this point.
A lot of our power infrastructure is so complex with microgrids and renewables and real time billing and buy backs that it can’t be switched to manual anymore. A lot of industrial vendors won’t provide warranty support if their remote access is removed.
And this is all happening in super low maturity environments with limited if any cybersecurity resources or tools.
We’re trying, but the state of things is pretty dire, the barrier to basic disruptive attacks is lowering rapidly, and we can’t find enough people who understand the industrial environments and cybersecurity on thirty year old computers fast enough to hire close to enough people.
@hacks4pancakes There's alternatives to airgap that're better than open connectivity though. VPN gateway for example, the hardware isn't that expensive (or shouldn't be given the price of small industrial PCs with 2 network ports). I think the real problem is we're letting business people have the final say over technical decisions in situations that can have catastrophic consequences if the decision is wrong.
I can't believe some of you somehow think this patch is negative. What could be more positive than a rainbow?
@lowqualityfacts this 🤣
still working on the opposite, to get the high notes turning everything into "u"!
you can especially hear it, "du quu non muvu ul pusu" for "di qua non muovo il paso", and also "su" for "sì"
its hard to pronounce italian wrong right
