@foone cursed question: what did they instead take out and discard, thinking it *was* the battery?

I'm watching Visionquest and it's so boring and dumb. Why do I keep doing this to myself?

I am back on my low carb diet!
@Migueldeicaza The attention grabber of my feed for today. Wow
Dingeed 10, got my Shadowgale Shriekling named "Mongo". Will do more tomorrow. I found a VERY LARGE dragon(?) in the northern ruins that were empty before ha ha nice. Ran away.
Now, I can download Zelda Ocarina of Time remake! I have zero life! (I will probably not play it until tomorrow)
#wowforever #warcraft
@mdhughes I went with a forsaken warlock for the first time. The starting zones are lovely! Undercity is an abomination of suck. Of course, Ironforge is my bar, and I still think it's the best cap city they made.

Like 70% of the points on that site are… Disingenuous at best. It’s not wrong over all at all. But I do wish people would stop throwing in a bunch of bullshit along with the good points.
I hate ai on many moral standards and see it as highly problematic, but also see it as a fun toy.
It makes it hard to have any honest conversations about the problems around ai when everyone is basically a religious zealot spouting as much bullshit as the ai tech bros are.
Is ai a problem? Yes. There’s no honest way to disagree with that. But the real conversation is far more nuanced than that.
I stopped reading at “fun toy”.
There’s always some shill willing to go “yeah this steals people’s work, mangles it and spews bullshit back at them, all while destroying the environment, to make a few dudes richer. It’s nuanced”. 🙄
Have you watched The Music Scene by Blockhead recently? It came out 16y ago but feels astoundingly topical today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhheiPTdZCw
I would argue the best music video ever made
@cwebber the kind of extruding visuals made me think of the (way older) Linda McCartney’s Oriental Nightfish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGdQCqnqcww&list=RDsGdQCqnqcww
these kinds of videos sit somewhere between music visualiser and narrative

@hbons What do you mean by miss, regarding uptime and security?
It all comes down to routing and properly updating your dependencies (especially in these times).
What needs to be reachable from outside and what needs to stay behind the reverse proxy, and always have your services patched and up yo date. Also, always authenticate with SSH to your VPS (never user and password, manage properly user groups, especially with git runners etc.) Too much to cover.
I would advice that, nowadays, serving as much static stuff as you can without relying on servers or third party APIs is the most secure thing.
But for me, if you know your way around basic sys-admin stuff and Linux you will be fine.
For patching, I rely on Renovate which updates my services whenever there’s a new stable patch.
@iscarlosmolero that’s very useful. thanks!
I guess Mirror Kira was bisexual. Is "Communist Himbo" Bareil? 🤔
@darth_hideout Rom, I guess.
Whoa. #Ojeda won. Here he is a few weeks ago.
WorldMonitor is now available for FreeBSD.
WorldMonitor is an open source dashboard for real-time global intelligence. It brings news, markets, commodities, energy, supply chains, conflicts, military activity, natural disasters and risk indicators together on one map and in one set of panels. It aggregates many public data sources and is aimed at anyone who wants a single view of what is happening in the world.
On FreeBSD it runs self-hosted in the browser: pkg install worldmonitor, start the services, open the dashboard. A separate client brings the same data to the terminal.
Some panels need API keys for their data sources, and the Pro features and sign-in depend on the WorldMonitor service. The package documentation explains what is needed.

@glyph @freakboy3742 emacs or vim or helix or I dunno man.
@phildini @freakboy3742 emacs famously has not been “terminal based” since jwz added some X windows code in the 90s. maybe I will have to give you a demo sometime :)
@RobSodergren Den kan säkert göra det där modem-ljudet också 🥹
@doktorzjivago Det var grejor det.
Of all the real-world names for chemicals that sound like they were dreamed up by a comic book writer as an ingredient in some superhero’s origin story, “Zoledronic acid” must be near the top of the list.
@gregeganSF I don’t remember it with joy. Gave me really bad days, but maybe stronger bones. Did you get a shot?

@jalefkowit @gvwilson a remarkably balanced and fair portrait of the man
It occurred to me then that *most* people seem to think that animals only have value - and deserve protection - if they're 'owned'. Indigenous, ambient wildlife has - in most people's minds ~zero (or even negative) value. The crucial, unique value of our biodiversity has *not* been well explained to the mainstream. What do you think? @joncounts
2/2
@lightweight Interesting thread here. A lot of contradictory things are tangled up with NZers love of pet cats that they allow outside. (Indoor cats are great.)
Regarding your question about whether people most value the animals they can own, I think instead a lot of New Zealanders are empathetic to individual animals, wild or owned. That's mostly the animals that they see are are like us (bigger, smarter mammals like cats, dogs). Animals that fall into this circle of empathy generally get treated very well by us. Those that we can make money selling dead (sheep, cows, pigs) get treated a bit differently, but the recognised duty of care is still there.
Native birds still seem to be on the periphery for many people, although generation-by-generation birds are making their way into our circle of care. Hedgehogs (a pest) are still well inside the circle for many people. Lizards seem more on the edge still.
When it comes to plants and fungi and invertebrates (most of our indigenous biodiversity), the connection is not emotional and I don't think most people give these much thought at all.
