@alisynthesis It's interesting because I also spend a fair amount of time in Maine, but go to lots of community events there because I'm better socially connected there and it's easier to get a friend to go with me and give me a ride.
@nikkiana I didn't know you were in NH, me too! I'm in Keene. When i lived in other parts of the state I had a really hard time finding people but it's been easier here.
My fuzzy boys do not get the concept of daylight savings time at all, and are haunting my every step around the house desperately trying to communicate the fact that they have never been fed before in their entire lives and may perish at any moment if they do not get their dinner immediately
@AbandonedAmerica My cat would be confused every year as well. I tried explaining to her that it was a dumb human tradition but she just looked at me apathetically as if to say "you had one job". 🐱
@mastodonmigration WHAT?!!! That's unreal.👀
@VeroniqueB99 IKR?!
@gottalaff.bsky.social His district (except for the few sane voters that there are in it) deserve all the pain that they get.
@Austin_Dern yeah wasn't that a big part of humor theory?
also there were entire civilizations that thought that having lice was healthy because they noticed that unhealthy people didn't have lice (because their higher body temperature drove the lice away)
@fluffy Oh, I haven't heard that about lice. Interesting and not preposterous thinking.

@fiend_unpleasant A screenshot of a computer screen displaying a presentation slide in a web browser window. The slide is titled "Cold Front & Winter Weather" and features a diagram showing a blue wedge of "Cold Air" pushing under an orange wedge of "Warm Air" with a grey cloud icon above. Below the diagram, diagram, text reads, "Can cause thunderstorms and severe weather, even in winter! When a cold front is also ushering in the arrival of an very cold, arctic air mass they can also causes snow squalls, which are intense bursts of snow and wind with whiteout visibility that are extremely dangerous, especially while on the road." To the right, under the headings "snow squalls" and "safety tips," there is text describing snow squall events and advice to "Reduce your speed, turn on your headlights and try to exit the road." The slide also includes a "weather.gov" logo and the number "32," while the background shows a computer taskbar and a system clock reading "Tuesday, November 3, 2026 | 7:29PM."

@fluffy So I have read that in pre-Renaissance Europe there was a belief that a person _couldn't_ have more than one illness at a time, bodies just didn't work like that. Turns out not so much but it sure would make for better game balance if it did.

Yet another good reason for schools to switch anyway. Google keeps getting sued over its data collection on schoolkids, and students have always been worth more to Google than Google has been to them.

Just one example:
"... secretly gather information about school age children"
"The tech giant collects not only traditional education records but thousands of data points that span a child’s life, and 'neither students nor their parents have agreed to this arrangement"

chronic illness is bad enough on its own, but that should entitle me to never get acute illness on top of it
like what do you mean now i'm double-sick

i got more of that insane ammonia licorice and it got me thinking about a candy that, on contact with saliva, produces an electrolyte that forms a low capacity high voltage battery in your mouth and produces a burst of spicy plasma for just a brief moment
@qualia i love salmiak
don't love the idea of the electrolyte candy though
Spotted in our local high school. The kids may, in fact, be alright.
