Also my dress today has pockets, so I’m winning at life
@rnd @santi And it's not even possible in theory, because there's no way to compare how much two people value something. The preference cycles that show up in Condorcet's method are not specific to Condorcet's method but show up in any attempt to aggregate preference rankings. Any system one might come up with to resolve such cycles is arbitrary.
Capitalism tries to resolve the interpersonal value comparison problem by using a separate, widely available and fungible commodity that people just exchange for whatever they want, but there is no solution to the problem that people who accumulate enough of said commodity can then influence the rules to favor themselves and their friends, with the end result being oligarchy. And any attempt to create a system that redistributes the commodity just gets redirected in obfuscated ways to maintain inequality.
The way forward is to have a diverse array of approaches with general freedom of movement. Which has been the state of the world for most of human existence. Humanity evolves through punctuated equilibrium just like all life: long periods of relative stability and eventual stagnation punctuated by periods of chaos and rapid evolution. It seems pretty clear to me we're reaching the end of a stagnant period and are about to enter a chaotic one.
@freakazoid @santi > The way forward is to have a diverse array of approaches with general freedom of movement.
you know what, i can agree with that
i just posted something that kind of reaches the same type of conclusion, based on Adam Neely's video about musical genres -- that sometimes non-democratic governments, including even outright autocracies, can legitimately be better in some respects, and the problem is not that they exist and more that people who are born in them very rarely get to leave and find/start their own thing and not be bothered by others
I hate checking in on my P.I. and seeing this. Cant tell from the screenshot, but the top two basic factories are dry :(

Quietly waiting for more companies to discover that "AI-free environment" is the magic phrase that will attract the smartest, most dedicated experts in the world to come work for you. We don't often get magic phrases with zero downsides but we've got one right now and you can just, you know, use it
@SlangC5326 @jwz Are you using the advanced web interface unintentionally? You can turn it off in preferences. By default there’s only one feed in the middle.
Another possibility is that they post entirely with followers-only posts and you're not a follower?
I searched for "openbsd steam" on Google. The "AI" overview mentioned the recent Wine porting effort. You'd expect its source for that to be a respectable tech news site.
But nope. A random Instagram video.
How on earth am I supposed to keep @osnews alive in the future when sloppy search only opts for fucking shit like fucking Instagram as a source for technology news?
But the moon was GORGEOUS (especially through binoculars), with Jupiter and Mars hanging out right next door. The goats are healthy, I have lots of chickens who will start laying eggs very soon, I have lots of stored veggies for the winter, my family is doing well, and I generally love my job. There's lots to be grateful for.
That's focusing on the stars through the fog. I need to do that more.

I got incredibly bad medical news about a friend yesterday and I'm still reeling from it.
When I went out to do barn chores this morning, it was foggy but I could still see the stars directly overhead this morning if I looked up and focused. That's kind of what my brain feels like, waiting for more bad news on so many scales...
Good morning! If you live in the U.S. it's a beautiful day to vote. I'm not talking about the weather. If you haven't voted yet, you have the fantastic opportunity to put an action where your words have been.
Mr. W, my daughter + I have just returned, and our polling place was a lovefest. A steady stream of voters, full of smiles. It could not have been better, unless I'd been allowed to hand-write "Take that, R's!" on my ballot.
So get out there. I have a good feeling.
Fellow U.S. folks, if you haven’t voted, please do so today. Fingers crossed.

But we do care, @uriel!

A new day. A new chance to succeed.
A day of distractions that I'll need to manage. I've set up blinders on much of it, made plans that allow me to ignore more. Whether any of it works, only time will tell.
But I have wood and water to deal with, as always. Grounding tasks that start the day and continue to put me back in "now" when I wander too far astray from the path.
It all starts with the breath and continues, one after the next.
Please keep breathing #today

Maybe I'm really cheap by I object to spending 58p on each Tesco branded condom. It really adds up over a weekend. I wish Aldi did own branded condoms.
@fesshole Tesco own brand condoms exist. They’re a thing. But ok shagger whatever.
