Kobo Clara BW vs. the new Kindle: $10 buys waterproofing and warmer light

@cwebber what made me most sad about his retelling was that there was a hard rule: no AI-generated graphics or music.
But code? just let claude do it lmao

I hate, hate, HATE that "the election was rigged" has become the go-to explanation (across the US political spectrum) for any election that doesn't go your way.
Remember: despite real progress, there are still vulnerabilities in parts of our election infrastructure. But there is NO EVIDENCE that any US election outcome has ever been successfully altered by technical means.
It's not IMPOSSIBLE, but it's not something that we've actually seen happen (so far). Perspective, please.
@mattblaze Except for the gerrymandering.
The fact that Spanky is so freaked out about 2 Dan Sullivans in Alaska should reassure folk that it’s not so easy to hack the machines.
Reminder that the term "AI" is extremely broad and even covers stuff like breadth-first searches with prioritization.
@fluffy counting and sorting is my favorite AI algorithm
One thing I thought of and explained as contrast to all the vibey stuff going on is the demoscene. Pushing the limits of old computers as art. There's no reason to do it except craft and joy.
But of course, this weekend I saw an article where someone tried to do just that. Even on HN people were saying, why? You're missing the point of the demoscene. There's nothing to "gain" from the demoscene other than community and craft.
If you're using an LLM to try to understand and explain to you how a technique works, I suppose that's one thing. But if you're using it to build a demo, why? Exploring the limits is only there for community joy. There's no other reason to do it.
But every community, the joy and artistry is torn out of it. Intellectual strip mining.
@fluffy but it's always been a marketing term for whatever folks want it to cover
@fluffy like before it was funding GPUs for war it was funding lisp machines for war

I think they’d like posts merged not just comments.

@lisamelton I like all sorts really, probably quite geeky taste. Not so keen on guns. I’m retro at heart and a sucker for pixels. Thoughtful things without a panicky timer.
I am also utterly unable to stop playing Balatro. That would be my guilty pleasure…
What did I say? You connect appliances to the internet, this is what you get. You should not be able to hack yoghurt.

@TheBreadmonkey Didn't something similar happen several weeks ago? Why have these freezers not been taken off the network?
