The cybersecurity awareness will continue till morale improves
AI gets a lot of blame... but like the current economic cliff America is falling off is 400years in the making and has next to nothing at all to do with technology.
Its the systemic racism coming home to roost.
It's the end stage of manifest destiny.
It's just what happens to settler colonies when capitalist expansion -FUELED- by slavery runs out of growth curve.
None of that is AI.
It's rally just the slavery capitalism.
We built an economy on razing Native lands, plowing them with slaves to design and build vast amounts of infrastructure before continuing that process supressing Black economics until migration and ALSO suppressing migrants economics as we NOW see on full display.
Meanwhile the middle class was picked CLEAN by the credit card companies in the 80s, then housing, academic and medical lending+insurance.
No!! Anything but that

He's right, of course. People also shouldn't play video games on GPUs they own. They should be playing with cloud-based services, like Google Stadia.

Queen's Domain is great so far, and this brutal Kings Field-esque action RPG runs very well on the #SteamDeck:
@jackemled @XavianFox @dpflug Similar to how C needs a build system (Make), Rust needs a build system. If you think Make is an inherent property of operating systems I'd suggest you maybe have not experienced how hard a Makefile based project can be to build on Microsoft Windows.
You additionally need the package manager because the software may use packages and they have to come from somewhere.
You *could* invoke rustc by itself from a Makefile, but you would not have fun doing so.
@mcc @XavianFox @dpflug I don't think anything & I did not then either because I understood that Rust is different & I should not assume that it's the same as other things. I was trying to follow the official documentation for how to compile Rust for a tool I needed. It was three years ago so I don't remember everything. I ended up uninstalling everything to do with Rust because it was awful to work with, took ten minutes to run only for the compiler to exit & emit a cryptic error message instead of something normal, & the documentation was terrible. I did without the tool.
If software is undocumented or very poorly documented, it's a waste of time to learn. I can do something else more productive until there is good documentation & the software can be learned in ways other than brute force. I'm also not going to go whine & beg to the developers about bad documentation because that's rude. I haven't touched Rust since then & it was so bad that I never want to touch it again.

Alright london gang: which ISP is the least shite?
Excluding community fibre, who have been risibly useless and whose website is scummy and so broken that I'm ignoring everyone's votes and unilaterally choosing something else
@sinvega@mas.to the best UK ISP for a number of ethical and technical reasons IMO is Andrews & Arnold @aaisp@social.aa.net.uk
They are not the cheapest and they don't bundle streaming deals and other nonsense in but they do offer rock solid reliability, no BS technical support and unfiltered or otherwise messed with traffic.
A happy customer for over ten years now!
@alisynthesis @dreamer@mastodon.world @amadeus@mstdn.social @linuxaudiodevelopment I don't think @dreamer is being negative towards @amadeus. Rather, I think he's being wary and doesn't want anyone to lose their money. I feel the exact same way about this guy's products. I think it's great that @amadeus posts these things, so that we can decide for ourselves. :)
@ercanbrack thanks for that interpretation. Sometimes my spidey senses get broken by online conversations. Sorry @dreamer@mastodon.world if I was prickly!

Sam Altman wants to take your RAM
"From a global allocation perspective, actually, it's quite terrible to have everybody have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used 5% of the time," Altman said. Is there a way to not see duplicate of the same topic across different communities?
Hi everyone!
I’m really enjoying the Fediverse through Lemmy and Peertube.
One creator I enjoy and follow on the Fediverse is Gardiner Bryant as his content is really enjoyable.
Sadly he ´s the target of my post as he shares his content on many different communities that I follow.
Today I had 5 times the same topic on RetroDeck (great project too) on my feed on Lemmy (Voyager).
It is the same on PieFed (Interstellar).
This is really annoying and I haven’t found a way to not show these duplicates. Do you know about one or is it worked on?
Also when crossposting, it would be great if everything appeared under on post. Is it feasible?
Sorry if it’s easy and I just missed it. In a way I hope it is because it would mean that the Fediverse is festure rich😇

This would break the way many users use Lemmy & Co. I’m happy about users that cross-post.
I only follow communities I subscribe to. Let’s say I follow B but don’t follow A. If a user posts something related to topic A and topic B only in a community A, which I don’t follow, I would miss information interesting to me. When the user cross-posts to community B as well, then I’ll also see that useful post.
Also, even the same topic/community appears on different instances, and some users may not even be aware of the same community in other instances. They would miss useful or interesting information without cross-posting.
