My polling place was handing out AI slop to midterm voters.
@MaddieM4 @isaaclyman @jcoglan
"I'm seeking a technical co-founder" (a phrase with which I have been propositioned at Shoreditch meetups way back when) is basically "I wanna start a band but I can't sing or play anything and I haven't written any songs"
Oh neat. A solar micro inverter that comes with "Connection with high-ranking officials". Don't see too many of those these days
grok really doesn't have much in the way of paying users
xAI's main business is as a hosting company for Anthropic and Google
@davidgerard There's a reason he's trying to get it into as many US government agencies as possible. He needs the taxpayers to pay for it and to extract vast amounts of training data from what remains of the civil service on the downlow because he sure isn't going to start paying to train it by legitimate means.
We are in the age of intellectual strip mining.
Psykocouac avoue qu'il utilise des IA pour faire ses vidéos, décidément c'est vraiment un clown de première.
@Armadillosoft
My bad, I forgot to restart the service after the PHP security update. Fediplan is working again.

Pretty sure this is one of their recycler ideas, too. It comes up repeatedly. Always with the Central Library multi-story atrium photo as some sort of epiphany.

there’s a filter to show “only differences” which I think is a good way to do these comparisons, since some Threadiverse software could have microblogging-centered features like Mbin does

But Mbin can do some microblogging things. It's what distinguishes it from other threadiverse software. I think it makes sense to include if one of the three supports it, no?
Jake, the fountain of technical knowledge, is here with another must read.

This idea https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/models-and-research/google-research/google-project-suncatcher-facts/ #DatacentersInSpace is *completely fucked up*.
The environmental implications are just completely ignored. We pollute the atmosphere on the way up, at all levels, with rocket usage, and again on the way down, as the satellites fall out and burn up. At least, we hope they burn up.. I do not want a datacenter falling on my family.
We risk making the entirety of near-orbit space utterly useless to humanity for thousands of years [Kessler Syndrome](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kessler_syndrome).
And all of this is to avoid putting the datacenters on earth. Or perhaps, just not building them at all.
I really hope that lack of bandwidth, cosmic rays, vibration, and cooling, make it utterly impractical, and that all we get is a few test flights burning up in space, followed by a return to commonsense, if there ever was any.
Google, you and your lack of care for the planet, you disgust me.
@dch This has crossed my timeline some time ago.

@danlyke after how many decades of SELinux or apparmor and I *still* don't know how to properly debug problems with them. I find it easier to spin up a virtual machine that only runs one application than reason about any of the distribution access policies.
@th this one apparently stems from a systemd security policy. Desire to switch to a platform that still uses init scripts intensifies...
(In fact, some days I wonder if I can build a usable general purpose setup on top of BusyBox...)
I run this fediverse instance, our toy manufacturing outfit, a couple of peertube instances, a makerspace, streaming radio and a streaming television network out of my own pocket, since they cost more to operate than they make.
I also have a cafe and bookstore.
I have a crew of twelve(ish, depending on the week) folks working on these things. We break even most weeks, but we're losing a little more often than we have a little left over right now.
We're about to remove several of our biggest regular expenses from the books, and that'll shift the balance in the other direction (so we'll have a little left over more often than we're losing a little, and can give everyone on the crew a raise) but I have to get through these coming lean months in order for that to happen.
If you're feeling generous, and want to help me and my little north Georgia mountain community navigate some rough waters, you can:
- give me money: https://paypal.me/MountainTownFM
- go check out all the stuff I do: https://joyfulrevolution.ghost.io
- get some books: https://hemlockbazaar.com
- get some toys: https://mountaintowntoys.com
Thanks.
(I've been doing more self promotion than usual lately. It's because I'm trying to accelerate the entrance to "we're barely making it" and the exit from "we're barely not making it" you can help.)
