i think this is one of the reasons for productivity stagnation in 'advanced world economies'. to become genuinely exceptional at anything, or even to be reliably good enough that you could teach others, requires you to do it for like, 15 years. an increasingly large share of people never do any single thing for that long anymore. for technological reasons, and economic ones, everybody's forced to repeatedly be an impostor-syndrome beginner at everything now. hence all the grifting everywhere
@jk People seem to forget that even if someone is already an expert in whatever programming language a company uses, that company still has a bunch of internal software and processes that take a *long* time to learn and master. Retaining those experts is vital, and yet companies act like we're all interchangeable cogs.
did we ever get resolution on madonna's pronoun pin
@SophiaSurname wut?
I think I asked before, but I still haven't gotten one and my requirements have changed, so asking again: I'm looking for a mixer, mostly for small live bands. Requirements (by priority) are:
1. Physical faders. I know that an x32 is the correct choice here, but I don't care, I will sacrifice everything else to the determent of the show to have actual physical controls.
2. Built in digital interface with support for individual channel input and outputs (don't really care if the board itself is digital or analog)
3. Support for at least 5 monitors (3 at a stretch, but there's one band in particular that I'd like 5 for)
4. At least 12 channel strips
5. Portable (flight case is fine, but smaller is better, I've got the Tascam Model 24 on my list and it's pretty big if I'm honest)
6. Tablet control support (others would like this, I don't care, it's not a hard requirement)
Oh, and I guess price should be low… that's probably important that I can actually afford it. That said, I'm not sure what the range is for that yet so let's ignore it for now. I may have a grant and/or some money from the venue for this or it may be entirely me and I'll juts be trying to gig enough to make the money back before I pay too much in credit card interest, not sure yet.

Really hope we will be able to review places directly in the app one day. Im not a big fan of MapCompletes UX. This is a really cool feature and I already made some reviews.

Okay but like is it a good river?
0/10 this is a canal not a river, never going there again
@meph Hey bud, LLMs exist to be a tool of fascism and are incompatible with the "antifascist" claim on your bio, but if you want me to call ya a booster, you betcha. You know I try to be accomodatin' about that sorta thing. I don't think people should be at risk of takin' your opinions about antifascism seriously in light of the context here, is all.
And the context here, is that we do not need men to argue about the nuance of "no means no."
(I have a few regulars that keep me from doing so, but I swear to god every month I encounter a new rando from treehouse.systems that brings me right up to the line of blocking the instance. "Treehouse.systems take" is in my mental vocabulary at this point)
Asked my 3 year old to pick her pens up. Got told I'm "the worst man in whole wide world, you're worse than a hedgehog". Oh fuck off you melodramatic scrote.
I applaud the little girl here. From a 3-year-old, that is an EPIC BURN.
@CliffsEsport @Viss It's been awhile. I still use it for debugging things, but I think pretty much it was when ssh showed up on scene, due to Telnet not encrypting things, etc.
@skyfaller @aburka No, it is not a union-union, but I think that is for the same reason I'm not currently a UAW member - I'm no longer a grad student TA at UC.
Unions are usually tied to one's employer/work location and in this case I'm suggesting people who do not have an employer band together now, not waiting for an employer-tied union. Organize regardless of whether you take a future job in programming at a corporation.
However, if people are employed, they should definitely be organizing that sort of union.
And in the US, health insurance ain't nothing. Most people lose health insurance when they're unemployed or employed freelance.
@ml @aburka You don't have to be tied to a specific employer to have a union. Ignore the NLRB, wall-to-wall unions and concepts like the IWW suggest an alternate approach to labor power. Legal unions are weaker than ever in the current political environment, so it's time to remind capitalists why they compromised with the NLRB in the first place.
I guess I don't think the freelancers union seems radical enough. As long as companies like Uber are possible, I don't think they're doing their job.
@dimsumthinking @carnage4life I don’t find that predicts what it’ll do, though maybe there’s a specific kind of machine you have in mind. It definitely does not behave like my car.
I expect there’s a better mental model that’s more predictive, but I haven’t found it. I find “dehumanizing” it (avoiding polite language for example) is bad for my mental state. It might perform better if I were less polite, but I’d rather my habit of showing too much respect to objects than the opposite.
@cocoaphony @dimsumthinking @carnage4life I find myself using prompts like I would treat a colleague - and I love what you say about your mental state.

I should start leaving reviews of random fucking places around my area.
Maybe I’ll start by reviewing the nearby river…
