I see how you might come to that conclusion, but on FreeBSD that CVE was tracked [1] a long time ago. Meaning the Ruby was patched a long time ago. So running the unsupported GitLab on FreeBSD is immune to this vulnerability for a long time because it isn't being deployed with frozen dependencies

It's really hard to get people to grasp this

I guess my perspective is that there is no single model that's going to be a good fit, and there are currently lots of options for recurring month-in-advance patronage (sadly, Patreon were the only platform offering month-in-arrears that I know of and they removed that yesterday).

Ko-fi's neat in that it supports recurring pledges, one-off donations, *and* sales on one platform, and creators can pick what does/doesn't work for them
